Sony hacked once again

Sony has confirmed another security breach today, with a hacker taking info on 8500 accounts from a Sony Music Entertainment Greece site where music fans can subscribe to newsletters.

The attack occurred on Sunday, the same day that security firm Sophos made it public that the sites were vulnerable.



Info stolen included usernames, passwords, email addresses and phone numbers. Because the site did not require credit card numbers, that info was fortunately not stolen.

The site is currently shutdown and will be restored after a full security review.

Sony has been hit with at least 5 attacks over the last month, with 101 million users having their personal info stolen by hackers. The PSN was down for three weeks following the first attack on April 17th.

This just goes to show what little regard sony has for the private information of its customers. This just goes to show how poor their stewardship of our valuable information really is. Everyone is turning on the hackers now but why doesn't sony get even more heat for have very lax policies

  Am i the only one who's not gonna give them my visa info again..
  
  I had to renew my visa in Aug anyway so i speeded up the process a few months and got a new one now just in case.. No way thats goin anywhere sony store.

  just use a prepaid credit card. thats what i have been using. i only use credit card for transactions over $50. and the prepaid for little stuff like psn. you have to use common sense.

  Yeah if $ony cared or at least had a clue you would think they would have sent an army of security folks through their entire system closing all these holes. I wouldn't be suprised if it happens again soon...They just can't seem to get the concept. Still they have fanbois mad at the hackers...Yeah the hackers are dicks but $ony is the one not taking proper steps to secure your information...

  Yes just used prepaid psn cards from the store and avoid having to deal with the credit card mess.

That is often true of infiltration hackers (people who break in to steal/change information)...but it is not always true, as these people are often trying to find proof of crimes, or searching for holes that can then be patched before someone malicious comes along. Then there are groups like Anonymous, who do the digital version of a picket line...a physical picket line can be a bother to people in real life, but that does not mean that they should not be allowed.   As for the people who are just doing this to make money, I see them as the criminals they are...and you don't deal with a crime problem by blaming the criminals. If you were hacking to make money, would you rather hack some music website to sell the user info for almost nothing, or would you rather hack Wells Fargo and get hundreds of thousands of credit cards, checking accounts, savings accounts, etc, etc? Wells Fargo does not get hacked every week, sony does...and the only reason for that is the lack of security on Sony servers.
