GameFly acquires Direct2Drive

GameFly acquires Direct2Drive
Movie and video games rental service confirms the acquisition of the digital distribution service.

GameFly officially confirmed that it has acquired Direct2Drive, but did not offer up any financial details of the deal with IGN. News Corporation (IGN owner) will maintain a minority stake in GameFly and will have a representative on the company board.

However, News Corp (or IGN) will not play any direct part in the future running of GameFly or Direct2Drive. Currently, Direct2Drive offers 3,000 games for PC and Mac users.

"We're very excited to bring the D2D team on board at GameFly and expand our ability to deliver games to consumers," said GameFly CEO David Hodess.

"Only GameFly can offer a complete library of physical and digital games for the PC, Mac and consoles in one place."

    One word.........Steam

As a 37 year old non NERD gamer (avid player but not ridiculously, time-wasting and hardcore), I used to hate Steam and still hate the fact that you can't resell their games, which I still believe to be a violation of "fair use" and sueable, I do love the stability, convenience and bomb ass pricing of Steam games.

I've checked D2D and rarely find anything worth paying that money for.

To each his own though. Some hate Steam so much, they're missing out on all the great deals and forgetting the one essential idea..........TO PLAY THE GAME AND ENJOY IT.

Ahh.....in all honesty, it's been well over a year and a half since I've been on D2D and at the time they were retail priced so I just assumed the same. Thanks for clearing that up though. Helpful for future game purchases now that I know.

Full retail digital games are upmarked 5-10% 0-o too.

When D2D has sales, generally they're better than Steam's. Steam's sales are always game based and the games on sale are usually old or stupid.

D2D's sales are usually % off sales. Meaning I can choose any game for xxx% off.

I'm not suggesting using one site over the other... that's just stupid. Smart gamers will check ALL sites first. Not just stick to one.
