Apple could release 'iPad 2+' later this year?
According to FBR analyst Craig Berger, Apple may be ready to release an 'iPad +' later this year, the "plus" signifying a premium version of the tablet.

Says the analyst (via Forbes):

We hear Apple could migrate the iPad’s display resolution from a current pixel density of 132 ppi to 250-300 ppi for the ‘iPad 2 Plus’ (note that the iPhone 4′s screen is 326 ppi).

If this device does come out as a high-end iPad for the holidays, then Q4 production volumes could diminish somewhat as screen constraints again arise as LG and/or Samsung would likely have difficulties ramping screen yield rates for these high resolution displays right out of the gate.

While we find this new commentary interesting, we await more confirming data points from other supply chain contacts before fully believing a new iPad device is coming in 2011.

There are have been an almost infinite supply of Apple rumors this summer, with most surrounding an expected release of the iPhone 5 in September. Other rumors include the release of the iPad 3 and that of an Apple HDTV.

If they do then it doesn't make sense to keep buying them if newer versions are coming out so fast.

Ipads are ridiculous with their timings. I mean when the Ipad 2 came out, people with their i pad ones were able to refund them for a I pad 2 with there receipt because the timing was so short.

iPads actually don't get a lot of releases. Remember, they are competing with Android tablets, and android tablets (as a group) get released about once a month.

Of course, android tablets are competing, so they are always either pushing the envelope or trying to make a budget device. Apple is in the middle...their products carry a high-end price, and they perform like low-end devices (actually, they don't perform as well as low-end android devices...they can't even play flash videos).

Steve Jobs said it himself (I am paraphrasing because I don't feel like tracking down the exact quote)...iOS devices are too slow and the battery lives are too short to be handle Adobe Flash. The hardware is there, but as long as iDevices have iOS, they will be low-end crap, no matter what hardware is inside and no matter how much Apple charges for them.
