PlayStation Vita will not hit U.S. until 2012, says Sony
Japanese buyers will see the console for Christmas, but everyone else has to wait.

Despite the general expectation that Sony would be rolling out the PlayStation Vita handheld before the holiday season, the company has said today that it will not hit Europe or the U.S. until 2012.

Because of the delay, many analysts now expect Sony to have weakened sales of the console, and overall revenue decline.

For controls, the updated handheld adds dual micro-analog sticks, giving gamers a feature they begged for on the original PSP.

The device has a massive 5-inch multi-touch OLED screen with 960×544 resolution, a multi-touch panel on the back and will run on a quad-core ARM cortex processor.

Sony has added tilt-sensitive SIXAXIS controls, standard and front-side cameras, GPS, an electric compass, Wi-Fi and 3G support, and access to Android gaming.

For 3G, AT&T is the exclusive carrier.

Prices $250 for Wi-Fi-only, $300 for 3G. The rival Nintendo 3DS just saw a price cut to $170 from $250, just months after release.

By release time you will probably be able to get a PS3 for the same price or a 360 for $50 less...and with the memory cut in half, it is really held back. Of course, being made by Sony holds it back more than anything...the fact that it is made by Sony effectively makes the 3G version pointless because they will probably block PSN access if you want to keep some "useless" feature like the X button or something.

Nobody saying you can't buy a PS3 or Xbox, people are so annoying posting meaningless comments. Yes the price is more or less like a full console price, but so what? You can't carry the PS3 or Xbox around can you? For the spec, $250 is very good. It's impressive enough that even the 3DS is ashamed of the $250 price.

This sucks, I was hoping to get two Uncharted actions before Christmas, Drake's Deception and Golden Abyss. Well, I guess I'll have to settle the Vita version later then.
