People just aren't ordering porn on their TVs anymore

According to the WSJ, cable and satellite TV providers are just not selling as much porn as they used to.

While still wildly profitable, revenue on adult VOD and PPV service have been falling, showing consumer's move to the Internet for their pornography.



Over the course of two weeks, Time Warner and DirecTV has directly stated that PPV profits were weaker than expected thanks to "lower adult buys."

Says the Time Warner CEO:

There's been a fairly steady trend over some time period now for adult to go down largely because there's that kind of material available on the Internet for free.

Overall, adult VOD and PPV brought in $899 million in revenue in 2010 for TV providers.

  also the prices are pretty damn outrageous for directv's VOD so i've never used it, it's something like 30-40$ for a 4 hour window.

  Not only it is free, it can be downloaded by mistake mistyping the address of some random website, or using our old friend eMule.

  Nastiness aside, I can't see this being shocking. I don't know anyone who's ever used VoD for porn who wasn't doing it on someone else's television and bill. Actually I guess I don't talk to enough people about porn to even say that...

  First of all I prefer to create my own private porn in 4D but the price and the quality of the porn is not much better than what you can find on Skinamax or HBO late night.
  
  My wife and I prefer to watch the "porn" documentaries over what they call entertainment with terrible acting and less than entertaining story lines.

  Were surprised anyone is still sitting in front of a TV to consume it. Smartphones have taken this need away. Many people use live cam sites to get the real deal, with real girls paying attention just to them! People are fed up of acting, and the frankly ridiculous plotlines. Live cam users like the fact that they can call the shots on these sites, and no-one else!

  All PPV is too expensive...porn just happens to be the most expensive except for certain live events. I'm amazed people are willing to pay for any PPV these days...between netflix, blockbuster, and redbox they have a lot of competition...and it is all cheaper than PPV (plus redbox, BB, and Netflix all have good movies; not just Hollywood's latest crap).
  
  As for 4 hours, that is the same time as Viagra...and considering that old fat men are the only ones who can afford $40 for a porno, that makes a lot of sense. If you are still hard when the video ends, see a doctor.
