Plan for Foxconn to produce iPads in Brazil hits snag

Government sources have noted today that a highly anticipated $12 billion plan for Foxconn to produce iPads in Brazil is now seriously "in doubt" thanks to stagnant negotiations over tax breaks.

Additionally, Brazil apparently lacks skilled labor, say the sources.



Factories being hit with high taxes, an overvalued currency and lack of skilled factory workers has put the deal in complete jeopardy, however, and the proposed start date of November 5th is likely to be delayed indefinitely.

Says one Brazilian official:

The talks have been very difficult, and the project for a Brazilian iPad is in doubt. (Foxconn) is making crazy demands [for tax breaks and other special treatment].

After expecting 7.5 percent economic growth this year, that expectation has been dropped to 3.5 percent, placing the country firmly last in the BRICS group and towards the bottom of all South American nations.

  I can see why they would want to go to Brazil...the people are poor and Catholic...that means they will work for almost any wages and they consider suicide to be the worst sin imaginable. Plus, they are against birth control, so the future generations of child labor will be massive.

  I doubt they are asking for anything Brazil hasn't given to other companies to encourage them to move there. I also don't see the problem with unskilled workers, I thought they were all going to be robots.

  I hope Foxconn falls apart and dies off. What an evil empire. I just got some dual core workstations and sold them immediately knowing that Foxconn built them. As for Brazil, they are just evil scum like China. China gives them so much $$$. They are the crack whore of Brazil. No money for their crack so they spread their legs to get their fix. But at least Brazil has some of the hottest girls ever!
