Analyst: PS4 coming before Xbox Next

Analyst: PS4 coming before Xbox Next
RW Baird analyst Colin Sebastian has said today that he expects the PlayStation 4 to launch before the Xbox Next.

Recent rumors have pegged the Xbox Next as having a late 2013, early 2014 launch.

Baird believes that Sony does not want to give Microsoft "first mover's advantage" like they had with the launch of the Xbox 360.

Says the analyst:

I doubt they will be ready for launch in 2013. Between Sony and Microsoft, we expect Sony to be first to market perhaps as early as 2013, but more likely in 2014. There is still a lot of investment for both companies to recoup in the current generation.

Sony has been rumored to have already begun development on PS4 titles, as has Microsoft, although neither company has commented.

The hardware better keep up and last for the next 5 years. Technology now a days evolves so darn fast.

1.) They removed OtherOS...not only was this unfair and borderline illegal, but it is proof that they have no idea what they are doing...because to quote the Escapist, "YOU DON'T F**K WITH PEOPLE WHO INSTALL LINUX ON THEIR PLAYSTATIONS"

2.) They have gone to insane extremes to push their most loyal customers away while trying to attract the "Casual" gamer.

3.) They have changed their policies so you can't actually buy anything, everything is an open-ended lease. You might say, "So what? They will never actually terminate these leases" To that I say, "Have you been watching sony lately? Nothing is off the table...and they wouldn't be putting it into the TOS if they didn't intend to use it at some point."

4.) ...And this is the BIG one...Sony is intentionally killing their own consoles simply to sell replacement units and overpriced repair services. The hardware is good...the firmware is killing them. They could fix this quickly, cheaply, and easily...AND THEY DON'T.

I was doing PC playing for so long and enjoyed using the keyboard. I just wish, a game like COD, you are not tied down to certain consol servers. Next gen is a couple years out. I just got into the current ones last Christmas. Hell, I still have Colecovision,Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Genesis, and PS2(modded of course). There are certian games I still like, and others are ok.

The PS3 I have does more for me as an entertainment investment. My daughter gets to play her Cars2 game. When I have a free moment I play COD. Othertimes I stream Netflix or play a BD movie. Some of the games are eye candy, but actual play sucks.

I think the Wii was so popular, for it was simple and the masses of useres just passed time with it. I do not own one, nor have the ambition to owning one.

I do remember how the 2600 was so popular back in the day and Sears had their knock off, everyone I knew had a 2600 with some diffrent games on it.

New models are the nature of the beast, but come on, make the system for both serious game users and general public and you will have a winner on your hands. BTW quality trumps over price for most of us people in here you Corporate morons. Cars are the same way now, but I won't get started there.

I don't think I will ever see myself buying a Sony console again not after all the flying poo-poo from the PS3 that went on. I still enjoy gaming on the Xbox 360 a lot better. I like the controller design and I also hate the XMB on the PS3 always have since they put that crap on the PSP. I still enjoy the use of my PS3 makes for a great blu-ray player the reason I purchased one to begin with.

After this generation I'm definitely more interested in the next Xbox, but I'll be open the the next PS4. I doubt Sony will be dumb enough to launch it with a $600 price tag this time.

PC is the way to go for me; based on current gen there's not enough exclusive titles on either system to warrant owning both next gens or even 1 of em. To get both would cost around $1000 at launch, what kind of PC rig can you start with that? Quite a bit. And I already put $3k into mine, what's anther 1k?

Nope...they started turning a profit on every unit sold while they were still selling the last of the fat models...this is why they changed the firmware after 3.15 to decrease the fan speeds.

I'm wondering if it more of a move to put DRM into the hardware, in order to decrease pirating. It will be next to impossible to defeat hardware DRM in the cpu when the software is expecting it. Example of hardware enabled DRM would be the newer Intel cpu with Sandy Bridge and newer, and might suspect this will be a trend that will be pushed into the console CPUs as well.

I suppose you might hear people in both S0ny and M1cos0ft saying we need to push out the newer console to take advantage of hardware DRM and help assist software companies writing games for our system protect their intellectual property...

I bought a PS3 mainly for GT5, waited like 4 years longer than expected and then was disappointed. In terms of exclusives, the only memorable title I can come up with on my PS3 is MGS4, and none on my 360. Previous consoles were so much better.

I agree with you. I had a perfectly functional original 60GB model and it just went YLOD on me. The fan still works. the PSU still works. They are writing code in the FW to kill off the old versions of the console. We need a FW watchdog that should be getting these releases to inspect before it gets released; for both Sony and Microsoft.

Sony stated that PS3 will lost 10 years and Sony will not last if their server keep getting hacked.

They say the lifespan will be 10 years...considering that they are still selling the PS2, and thus the "lifespan" of the PS2 continues, the 10 year number means nothing.

I wonder what kind of disc they will be using and I bet it will cost more than PS3 when it first came out and then later on no B/C PS2/PS3.

LOL, well I should of put this in my reply that i mean they finally starting getting their act together about their games, and somehow they are doing better because of better games right? that's why i want to restate that they somewhat getting their act together. I mean, Despite I have both PS3 and Xbox 360, I prefer Xbox 360 much better than PS3, is more user friendly for me and more so online gaming with my friends, although I only use PS3 for play BD purpose and played few games like God of war, MGS and Uncharted, other than that I haven't play anything online with my PS3 console. I just don't think is a right time for them to even think about making new consoles when these consoles are still on their prime time, specially Xbox.

I bought the xbox elite when the Elite first came out for the release of GTA 4, then it was delayed a year or so. I use my ps3 for the BR player and the exclusives. Just finished Drake 1 & 2. But I use my 360 for all other games. I will wait a long time after the next gen comes out. For the $ drop and to finish all the games I want to play on this gen. They are prob gonna look like poo on the next gen consoles.

One word (associated with many other examples) Betamax. I think that the last thing that they released that was any good was the PS2. After that they started going crazy with their terrible ideas that they think are going to be bombshells.
