Galaxy Nexus goes on sale in Canada

The Galaxy Nexus is now available in Canada, making it available (or planned) pretty much everywhere but the U.S.

Bell and Virgin Mobile have the device available for $160 with contract.

Verizon has not yet set a release date or price for the Android 4.0-packing smartphone, which was expected to launch in mid-November but has been delayed.

The Android 4.0 ICS device will have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen with 1280x768 resolution and dual cameras 1.3/5 MP. The phone has a curved design, is thin and has an impressive no-shutter lag camera.

Additionally, the phone has LTE/HSPA+ support and NFC for Verizon's ISIS payment system.

Not sure what is going on but my guess is Verizon and Google are having a nice little fight.

I sure hope Google keeps up the good fight. They have my support.

You know what I hate about Canada carriers; I can't trade in my older phone for a discount on the new ones. No I have to buy the phone outright with a new contract. So sadly for my next Android device I'll like be going for the TP HAH - Transformer Prime.

Droid tp... that'd be so awesome...

That's why there is ebay. The carriers here in the US don't let you trade in phones either. AT&T and Verizon sure don't. I don't know about the smaller regional carriers. Also if you buy the phone outright there is NO contract on ANY carrier. You get the contract when/if you are eligible to get a subsidy on the phone. If you buy it at full price there would not be one unless you got a store employee who was greedy and just completely screwed you to get a commission (I have seen them do this many times and the customer has no idea it was done).

I don't understand why people think a cellphone should be treated differently than any other type of electronic equipment. When you buy a laptop and a newer model comes out do you think the store will let you trade it in for store credit towards the next model? Of course not.

Yea well I not locked into a 3 year internet contract on a laptop purchase am I? So that argument really has no merit in this case. I know that T-Mobile used to allow trade-in with phones in the US. I heard of AT&T doing it for long time members, at least according to my friends; they could be full of s**t tho, I dunno.

You aren't locked into anything. You can get out, you just choose not to due to the penalty since you can't give back the phone after 30 days and they want the money they lost on you. That doesn't mean you can't. You don't have to get a contract but the lower price of the phone vs retail is the added incentive to do so and nothing more.

I have said this many times. Your contract is only to lower the up-front cost for the phone. In essence you want to pay for the phone over time and not all at once. Once you have that phone it is yours just like if you bought a computer or a tv from the store. You do have certain warranty options guaranteed by the manufacturer but the store is not going to give you a discount on the next model that comes out if you bring the old model you got back in. That is not how the industry works.

Point being a cellphone is just a small computer and will be outdated in a few months. What sense does it make for them to trade in obsolete equipment? None at all that's what. The profit they could get for resale would be minimal to none depending on how old it is. The company wants to make money. They are not going to take back something that is junk to them that they would not be able to unload profitably.

Whoever told you AT&T does trade-ins lied. It doesn't matter if you've been there for 20 years they are not going to do that. My 3 years experience as a cs rep there gives me insight on little things like this. The most they will do for you is upgrade you early after you have done a lot of moaning and gnashing of teeth depending on how far you are into your contract and if you are a profitable customer to them but it depends on other variables about your account.

Radioshack is a 3rd party vender. They don't do anything 'FOR' T-mobile. They have a contract with T-mobile to be able to sell their services which adds to their profit. They get commission for doing it. They get commission for every service they can add to your account, every piece of equipment they can sell you and every contract they add. The sales agents will do almost anything to get you to agree to a new contract, even lying to you outright. It wouldn't surprise me if they or any other 3rd party vender took your old phone. They have the ability to discount you a little bit more than the regular 2year price they normally give if they see they can get a sale. If you give them your old phone and get a 25-50 dollar discount off of the new one WITH a shiny new 2year contract that really isn't an actual discount in the long run now is it? Its just smoke and mirrors. More than likely they send the phone to be recycled so you don't have to. I do believe the recycling programs give them incentives as well but I'm not 100% certain about that.
