Amazon creating fulfillment center in India

Amazon is preparing to break into the world's second most populated nation, creating its first fulfillment center in India.

Fulfillment centers, which Amazon has in a few nations, are massive warehouses used to store products and house logistics teams for shipping and returns. The new center is going up in Mumbai, the largest city in India.



The company has posted many immediate job positions including IT Manager, Stations Operations Manager and financial analyst.

India has a $550 billion retail market, and it is clear Amazon wants a bigger piece. The company is the largest e-tailer on the planet, with expensive fulfillment centers in the U.S., Germany, China and the UK. Amazon does have multiple software development centers in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad and a customer-service center in Hyderabad, says Reuters.

Amazon is already popular in India due to its free shipping and free customs on all books, music and DVDs bought from Amazon.co.uk and sold to Indians.

  Why is it I see this as a bullshit plow? It's nothing more than a means to swing several hundred jobs from one or more of their other countries to their 'new' Mumbai location & suck up that savings?
  
  Call me a cynical bastard if you want. Given the economical times... the new local will open up probably right after the tax season closes... doesn't take an economics or math wiz to figure this one out folks.

  You are dumb. This is Amazon wanting to sell to Indians clearly the largest middle class in the world. The shipping costs from US are prohibitive ($54 for 4 10 goods). Amazon clearly wnats to supply that market.

  And where do a large bulk of customer service calls still get fielded from, defective merchandise reclamation (precious metals & the likes) & lower costs to the European markets shipping from a centralized location all benefit from?
  
  Although a new market is always welcome the above benefits outweigh 'new sales flux'. Do some homework before making slanderous comments.
  
  Greed happens to be the business model standard set since 1976 & the US is the industry leader. Or haven't you heard the 'pop' lately?
