Putting Apple's $97.6 billion cash into perspective

Putting Apple's $97.6 billion cash into perspective
Yesterday, we reported that Apple's strong earnings had sent the company's hoard of cash to an unprecedented $97.7 billion.

Bloomberg has a fantastic article on what Apple could do with the money (none of which are logical, of course) and it also put the amount of money in perspective.

First, the news site says Apple could effectively bail-out Greece, by paying its debt payments for the next two years. Greece, which is on the verge of bankruptcy, has been bailed out twice by its European Union counterparts, but remains in trouble.

Secondly, Apple's revenue for this quarter, alone, was 4 times larger than South African nation Zambia's annual GDP.

Third, Apple now has a market value larger than Exxon Mobil, which literally prints money with its oil sales and has more cash.

Fourth, Apple's cash is larger than the combined market value of Boeing, Alcoa and Travelers, three of just thirty companies that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the most watched stock market index.

Fifth, Apple could go out and purchase 2000 tons of gold right now at current spot price. The weight of the gold would be the same as 10 blue whales, the largest animals to ever exist on this planet.

Finally, Apple sold more iPhones per day last quarter (for a total of 37 million) than children were born in the world during the same period.

I can't wait to hear stories of some kind of CrApple monster (some kind of symbiote or CEO puppet master from behind the curtain) sitting in a Los Angles high rise, in a king size bed filled with his own fesses, hypodermic needles broken off in his arms & between his toes...

And we all find out that this idiot bought off all the elections since Reagan, controlled all the markets accordingly & only until recently (and his complete loss of reality) has the total decay of society come to this point.

Sure, piss & moan that it's conspiracy. But could it not happen? Hell, Bloomberg's the one pulling the rabbit out of their asses here, I'm just adding to the magic act.

we Americans are the world's biggest hypocrites; back in the day slavery was abolished because, in simple words, it benefited the master more than do anything at all for the slave. finally, the day slavery was put to an end, we cheered and showed the world how proud of a county we are and the difference we could make in someone's life and the rest of the world followed us. today, the story is completely different. mega giant apple enslaves many many 1000s of human beings "legally" and automatically becomes the worlds most respected company. It's fascinating to the naked human eye how oblivious we have become by ignoring these simple human right violations and purchase our next iphone or ipad. I wonder if any human right activists own an apple product at all. what exactly are you guys trying to show? who exactly are you fighting for?

Quote:While I don't disagree with much of what you say, this is a silly comment. Most of the world never used slavery, and certainly nobody followed your "lead".

We once had a empire and it was led by an emperor then we had a kingdom which was led by a king. Now we have a country.

Uhm, you forgot to tell the rest of the story... It was actually scarey how close to Nazi Germany how close the US was to being when we started passing laws when it came time to 'supposedly' invoking rights to black folks. Meaning, how the Nazis slowly but surely weaseled the laws in so as to enslave the Jews. The US was doing it years before the Nazis even thought about it.

Sure, black people were free, but free to do what? When we freed the Jewish people from the concentration camps & all during WW2 it took a bit for them to reintroduce themselves back into the world from plain shock after 'basically' 30 years of being ostracized.

I know, Jews have been persecuted off/on for quite some time, but since slavery entered the US till its supposed abolition it wasn't until 1964 that ALL RIGHTS were given.

I don't know if the rest of the world was aware of 'that' part of the story or if they are just being polite in not rubbing our noses in it. We may be great at a few things, but not everything & I've had to smack the piss out of more than a few of my soldiers when we were stationed in foreign countries. Usually with the command of, "Hey Assholes!!! We're the GUESTS Here!!!"

^Agree. Just like all of the computers we're typing on too. People acting as if Apple is the only company making their products off Chinese slave labor.

Let's not everyone have a mental lapse into thumb sucking, pant loading, naivete... we all know that a tonnage of products are produced world wide, but a massive bulk can be said to be produced & shipped from China; obviously CrApple isn't solely funding their workforce.

It still doesn't answer why CrApple wants to sit on $97 billion for no good reason. What? That much money immediately makes them immune to a nuclear attack? If they swim in it like Scrooge McDuck huge money bin they'll be inoculated against influenza or Ebola?

We're not talking about somebody that spent a lot of money on a collectable figurine here that just sits on a shelf collecting dust. Nor am "I" saying just give it away either.

I am however saying "WHY!!!" most emphatically, when they could be using to benefit from a larger sales base & stronger established customer base.
