Activision: New Call of Duty will be revolutionary

Activision: New Call of Duty will be revolutionary
Activision Publishing chief Eric Hirshberg seems to believe that the upcoming game will be revolutionize the series.

Speaking on an investor conference call this week, Hirshberg said the "next Call of Duty will bring meaningful innovation to the series." The next game, expected to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, will be released later this year.

The exec would not elaborate further but the series has seen some user criticism recently from those who think the series is a lot of "the same" just with a new name and new maps.

2011's Modern Warfare 3 was an unequivocal success, bringing in over $1 billion in sales in just 16 days. Last November, the game helped the video game industry enjoy its best November, ever.

The company will also be updating its CoD: Elite subscription service to version 2.0, soon: "Elite has been a great success. It has generated seven million subscribers and 1.5 million premium members. That's very important to us ? there was a lot of risk in establishing it. So now we're thinking about how we further pursue those kinds of opportunities."

it's obvious with their sales figures that people like what they are selling, i seriously doubt they will change that winning formula too much.

Revolutionary with the title of the game has black ops in it?

By their standards, "Revolutionary" could means something as simple as a new engine...or even the old engine with a few tweaks that fans have been asking for since the first CODMW. Personally I haven't enjoyed the series since MW1...but the fact is that it is still selling like crazy, beating out titles like Skyrim that are much, much, much larger and more expensive to produce...so why fix what isn't broken...or rather, why fix something when people buy it anyway?

There was a time when MW3 would have been called a "Total Conversion", made by fans of MW2, and free...today they get away with charging $60 for it. If you could do that, wouldn't you?

Black Ops 2.............Hmmm............quite a revolutionary start by naming it that.

And it's not those that "Think" it's a bunch of "same with new name and maps" but in FACT and INDEED IS THE SAME WITH NEW MAPS!.......PERIOD

COD is like Apple........meant for the unthinking, uncalculating, simple minded folk.

I Wait to buy games till they go down in price. I just got Black Ops for $11 online. I am glad I wait. Not very fun compared to Metal Of Honor witch I also just bought for cheap.

MOH is more realistic. When your shooting people in COD they jump around like cartoons. On the Negative side. I get my butt kicked by people that have been playing the game since it came out. People seem to have eyes in the back of their heads. Its annoying. Maybe im just too old. On the other hand both are way too exciting to play campaigns. Only like multi player. Just cant wait to scrounge up the exp to get a decent gun.

I dont get caught up in the extras like some do. Paying to play a game you already paid for. I grew up on Nintendo so I prefer to just put it in and play. All the Downloading is annoying in the new systems. U get all excited cause u got a new game then have to wait 2 hours for a update to download. I know thats my slow connection but thats as fast as it goes around here. Annoying to say the least.

"revolutionary" means the same crap they have been selling us for years with an new title, 3 different guns, and a few new characters.

Did none of you bother to read the article? The very first sentence states "Speaking on an INVESTOR conference call..."

So, from an investor's point of view when talking about being "revolutionary", he means
    - cutting costs
    - cutting staff
    - milking every single cent out of the consumer
    - etc

It's only going to be revolutionary for investors. Activision isn't going to pump one more dime in to what they already have. They'll use the same engine, with the same graphics and same game play. They'll reskin Black Ops, call it Black Ops 2, add a required subscription of $5.99 a month for online play, and sell the game for $67.99.

That's what will make it "revolutionary" for the stock holders.

MW3 is a step in the wrong direction so hopefully B.O 2 rekindles the fire I once had in this series...

That wouldn't be revolutionary that would be the status quo!

Personally, I don't think it's going to get me back. I've gotten a bit sick of the series and will probably move to MoH for arcade shooters. Lately I just play BF3 while MW3 sits in its case...

No matter how much we crap talk about the COD series, they have a huge database of customers who will buy whatever they release.

There is no doubt about that as MW3 is one of the biggest selling titles in my area. But I have spoke to many that have bought it and they are all discouraged with the new title and say Black Ops is still the best release for that series. I had one person tel me that between the 3 new titles in this genre that Gears Of Wars 3 was his favorite, I haven't played that one so I have no opinion there.

In my opinion........Battlefield 3 was rather "revolutionary" regarding playability and graphics.

NOT A FAN of "Origin" though.........or playing the frakking game in a web browser. Browsers have enough trouble keeping from crashing or erroring out without playing a hardware-intensive game in them.

They will not change COD, that would run the risk of losing there record breaking sales every year. They have a winning formula like others are saying and they are gonna milk it till it's dry. Lot's of people don't like MW3 because it is very buggy. What do you expect when there pumping out a game a year? I very much love COD games just the MP online part. But with it being so buggy every year not fixing what really needs to be fixed I am done paying full price for a broken game.

I seen a comment that says the people apparantly like the content, that's where u are wrong, black ops sold around 900,000 copies, as mw3 only sold around 300,000....statistics straight from the producers...so yeah. I'm looking forward to change....treyarch is actually involved with the community, whereas infinity ward is not. Black ops is also a far superior game to mw3.

even if it IS black ops 2, i still wont make the same mistake by investing in mw3 (going in blindly with no review).
holy hell mw3 sucked. black ops was much better but again, im not going to make the same mistake and this time around, i will wait for a review or at least gameplay video
