Google Play to add movie purchases?
According to Cnet, Google Play may be adding movie purchases in the near future.

The newly rebranded Android Market currently only offers movie rentals.

Sources within the film industry say Google has shown an interest in giving Android users a way to purchase films rather than just rent although nothing is set in stone.

The same sources say Universal and other major Hollywood studios are making it a requirement that Google also sell titles if they want to keep offering rentals.

If true, the Google Play store may have the first titles available this summer.

Earlier this month, Google rebranded its Music, Books and Android Market services under the Google Play banner, making a more centralized area for all your media needs.

If they add them for purchase I may actually buy some from time to time, however when I looked last week and saw that everything was rental only I simply laughed and went back to reencoding my own films for the smaller screen. :p

I'm not an android user, but contemplating about purchasing an android phone. Is there a way to change the Google Play store back to the App market? I just want it to say the android market, not Google Play store with an icon that looks like the mario kart item box.

    Thanks for the help.

Some home screen replacements will let you change your icons and their titles, there are also widgets that do the same. Not really that big of a deal, but it can be done.

Agreed. Unfortunately no, cause Google owns the trademark name, but you can call it Android Market if you want to. Remember, no one can change what's in your mind. If you wish it to be that name in your head it will remain that way regardless of weather or not that names has changed.
