Apple, Samsung, HTC make all the profits in smartphone world
Horace Dediu of Asymco has posted some fantastic data this week on where all the profits in the smartphone market are going.

It appears HTC, Apple and Samsung are collecting 100 percent of the profits, with most handset makers actually losing money.

Apple is the big winner in the market, making a full 73 percent of all the profits, with Samsung taking 26 percent and HTC taking the last 1 percent.

Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG and RIM all either break even or lose money every year.

The following charts should make the data even more clear:

Makes sense...Apple can sell any outdated POS for whatever they like and people will buy it...Samsung has the best Android devices so they would logically take most of the Android profits since Android users actually care about specs, interface, quality, etc...and HTC is still able to hang on due to the fact that they once made the best Android stuff, in spite of the fact that they have basically given up and are not even attempting to counter the Samsung Note.

Totally agree... except for one small wrinkle... given all the complaints of software not running on any HTC platform, I can't imagine them still being in the running.

You'd think with the complaints I've seen in a bunch of customer 'software' reviews (not hardware) & the HTC's inability to run it, it would be hard to sell one of their devices. Yet, there they are.

Maybe they've had a really successful ad campaign this quarter (to be announced)?
