Samsung crushed on report claiming Apple will order elsewhere
Shares of behemoth electronics company Samsung took a dive today after a report surfaced that Apple would be ordering chips from rival Elpida instead of them.

The report claims Apple placed a massive mobile dynamic random access memory (DRAM) order with Elpida in Japan, accounting for half of the facilities total chip production.

Samsung is the world's largest DRAM maker, and Elpida recently declared bankruptcy before being revived by American rival Micron. Other DRAM rival SE Hynix also saw a large 10 percent drop on the day.

"It looks like Apple doesn't want to see Samsung and hynix dominate the chip market. Apple wants to maintain its bargaining power by keeping Elpida running," noted Choi Do-yeon, an analyst at LIG Investment & Securities.

None of the companies involved had comment on the report.

And this is where it will start to kill apple. Would Jobs have made this move if he were alive? Something tells me he wouldn't have.

Apple has had their run, with or without Jobs. It was just a matter of time don't you think?

Makes sense. Why buy most of your materials from a rival company? Samsung will have to adapt

Apple is Apple. Fanboys will buy their products no matter how useless they get. I guarantee you there will be a line at ever Apple store if they released an iPhone 4s with everything being the same except they added 4G.

I've been told that most of the "new" stuff is just all the useless crap that jobs had put a stop on.

Now he's gone all those people are ready to dump apple TV and other such crap at people.

expect the fall of apple in a year or 2.

Look at the current product dev the phones are just minor upgrades just to keep up with android phones now.

the rest are just to keep people buying stuff they probably don't need

There's a reason Elpida is/went bankrupt... & now Apple wants to use them to stick it in Samsung's ass? Yeah, good luck with that Apple.

CrApple fans can now look forward to their devices being behind schedule, more expensive & possibly back to memory glitched again because of this company. THAT'S how it is probably going to hurt Apple; in the short future.

It seems to me that everyone (for the corporate most part) is willing to start biting the bullet & start conforming to lowering prices to a consumer conforming mind frame to get people back into a buying practice again.

Apple still thinks they can sit in their 80s stink & let every one else do the work for them while they continue to sell their bear skins & knives for prices higher than a cat's ass.

Still... CrApple still buys their screens from Samsung don't they? The only other manufacturer is Sharp. At least that's my understanding.

Without Jobs it seems Apple may go the same way of Dell and go from a quality product to a bargain product. Dell back in 2001/2002 was a premium product then they replaced basically every supplier of their parts from top notch parts to cheap and crap parts and their stock has suffered ever since.

I got confused there... You were saying that Apple was actually at one time a manufacturer/propagator of quality systems?
