Nokia 808 Pureview with 41MP camera to sell for $699 unlocked in U.S.

As expected, Nokia has launched the 808 Pureview for the United States.

The device is notable because it runs Nokia's discontinued Symbian operating system and also includes a 41MP camera sensor. The average smartphone in the U.S. has an 8MP sensor.

Nokia has made the product page available for the U.S.. The phone will eventually sell through Amazon for $699, unlocked for GSM carriers.

The device will work on T-Mobile and AT&T's 3G radio bands.

Pre-orders begin this week but there is no word yet on actual release.

They don't have Android on it because at the time the phone was in actual development, Nokia was still trying to keep Symbian alive.

Android can't handle raw images? No, Nokia just thinks all Android apps are java. Android is linux, if you need it to do something and you have both root and hardware control, it can be done.

If a multi-core Linux computer (what an Android phone essentially is) can't handle the raw images from a 41-megapixel source, nothing can.

I had the misfortune of having to try installing Skype on E71. I did manage to do it and get it working but the stupid thing needs 8-10 clicks to get it going and it won't even remember the user name/password combo NOR more than a single wifi configuration !
