Windows 8 coming at the end of October

Windows 8 coming at the end of October
It's official, Windows 8 is coming at the end of October.

According to Microsoft's Tami Reller, the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) will be available the first week of August, with a retail date at the very end of October.

The company is supposedly "on track" to finishing up the final copy of the new operating system by its internal roadmap, in early August.

In May, the company said it expected the RTM by the end of July, so there appears to be a slight delay but nothing too major.

One of the major revisions from the Consumer Preview will be the removal of Aero Glass from the desktop UI.

Now having used Windows 7, do i really need to have a tablet interface on my laptop, the removal of the start button from the desktop, and the look and feel of Windows 7 but have the pleasure of using Windows 8. I have managed to remove all the apps on the start screen and found ways of getting a start button on my desktop.

Which then makes Windows 8 look like Windows 7.

I appreciate that with a tablet ( which seem to be in the adverts) that those tablet features look cool, but my laptop does not have a touch screen and i don't want that touch and go screen.

So why not on install give users the option to remove that UI on install. Least Windows 7 had a longer life than Vista

Most people I've talked to aren't to impressed with Windows 8.They are still trying to figure how to use all the features of Windows 7.

people doing tablet like jobs are going to like windows 8. i personally feel windows 7 has lot of great features which i would like to keep using. too many great features were not available in xp. other than one or two disappointments, 7 is cool.
i don't like that you can not use keyboard short-cuts in win7 to shut down, restart, stand by (win > u > u, win > u > r, win > u > s in xp). and, i hate that default win7 picture viewer does not display animated gif.

Oh yea... another OS I will be forced to endure because some folks will have bought it on their new PCs or laptops - then screwed them up & want me to fix it.

I mean, we JUST got 7 like that cup of coffee at the diner "right where we want it" & the waitress is just hovering over us - dying to pour more in & f*k it all up again.

I think 8 will not fail but be a disappointment because most people will see Metro and think to themselves this is more for a computer with a touch screen. I have 8 on my netbook and I can't even use the apps because my screen has to be at a certain resolution. I hate the fact I have to scroll over the stupid looking Metro UI and click on the Desktop App to go to the desktop. I hate that there is no start button and I have to use a program to get one back. I hate that when the PC goes to sleep I have to use my mouse and drag the screen up, yeah mouse and keyboard friendly...sure MS. I do like that it is more snappy then 7, but not by much. I think that is why they are pricing Windows 8 Pro at $39.99 for a while so they can sell a lot and proclaim well it must be better then 7 it out sold 7. When has MS ever sold a Pro OS at that low of a price? If they ever wise up and give you a choice to turn off Metro and give me the start button I will upgrade to 8, till then I am sticking with 7.

But does it come w/ a new DirectX version ONLY available on it to force gamers to 'upgrade' to it?

Windows 8 is cool on a touch screen tablet. But it sucks on a desktop. Those tiles are for fingers, not mouse pointers.

This window 8 is not real necessary for now,coz we're still trying to get used to some of the features of window 7

    Windows 8 is really "Win7 Sp2"
I would like many of the new features in Win8, like the Multi-monitor support. That should have been in a Win7 update.

I have absolutely no desire for a tablet interface on my PC.
I do not look forward to doing tech support on these computers.

Oh, Im sorry... Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?

The same here as I do computer repair so I myself will have to install this windows 8 as well to get to grips with, but hopefully it will bring me some cash with a few repairs from people messing it up. I have had to do this with every operating system rc and final. The joy of it all lol.

I'd be so much happier if you could scroll wheel the lock screen up instead of having to drag it.

I agree remove this ( metro) and add a start button for laptop users with no touch screen and it might be better

I still have comp#1 using XP, learning 7 on comp #2 and the more I learn the better I like it. They had better not give up on 7 anytime soon. Still like XP though.

If you are Android or Apple fan is obvious you'll hate windows, that's it.

I've putzed with the consumer release of the new Windows 8 & while it offers some 'wow' & fluff, there really isn't anything in there that the regular desktop folks need bother themselves with, but all us "tech goons" & neighborhood 'techies' are going to be plagued with moms/dads & grand parents who couldn't wait to get the latest & greatest and still click on every gyotdamn banner the internet had to offer.

I.e., "Hey [insert your name here]!!! Be a sweet heart & fix this for Nana would you!?!"

Unless you have a touchscreen desktop or plans to integrate your phone, laptop (with touchscreen capabilities) & your tablet all together with a major amount of ease; an upgrade to this new version of Windows is nothing more than a hassle. I.e., new icons, shit moved around, verbiage replaced with new idioms (that should have been left well enough alone, f*king semantics).

Not to mention a blitzkrieg of new drivers not needed for 60% of us & a new endless loop of security loop holes that will need filling because hackers will be sporting blinding hardons with the new release.

Then there will probably be a security lock on this version that will keep us from backing up crucial information so that when we finally say 'f*k it' & resort back to say Win 7, we can't get to it. Which has a bunch of us begging for the hacking/modding community to save us from the inevitable lack in Windows consumer responsibilities.
