Samsung forced to remove 'universal search' from GS III

Sprint has confirmed that Samsung will remove the universal search function from its latest Galaxy S III device.

The removal will come via the next software update for the device.



Says the carrier: "The new software update does disable the universal search function on Galaxy S III."

Universal search is the ability to use the Google search bar to search for locally-installed apps, contacts, texts along with regular Internet searches.

The Galaxy Nexus will also have the feature removed, thanks to the ongoing Apple, Samsung lawsuit that has stretched across the planet over a range of patents. Both companies are seeking injunctions on the other's products.

  Ok, so universal search is in Windows Vista, Windows7, and works the same on the iPhone. So should Microsoft be suing Apple to remove universal search from the iPhone?

  Wait a minute here, if Apple and samsung are suing each other for patent infringement as someone herre stated about Microsoft, then Microsoft should be able to sue everyone for essentially using their stuff. Microsoft can sue for search option, color on the screen, multiple window usage in browsers etc, etc etc.
  
  Apple grow up, you need to play nice in the sandbox, and yes when all is said and done the phones will be worthless and people will be out of a job oh yes thats exactly what we want right?

  Better check the patent and copyrights before you use the string to connect the cans and the cans to use as speaking hearing devices, you wouldnt want to infringe on someones intellectual property rights.

  Universal search seems like a pointless waste of time anyway. If you are searching the internet, why would you want results from your apps, contacts and texts anyway? And if searching for texts, what good would internet search do you? Seems like you would would just clutter up your search results no matter what you are searching for.
