Intel: New Thunderbolt controller will double speeds
Intel is planning to release a new Thunderbolt controller by 2014, one that will double current speeds.

The so-called Falcon Ridge chip will speeds as high as 20Gb/s and will support DisplayPort v1.1a and DisplayPort v1.2 Redriver.

DP v1.1a and 1.2 will also be supported by the upcoming Redwood Ridge, set for release in 2013.

More importantly for the consumer, Intel will supposedly charge less per controller for the Redwood chips than they do for current models, at $20.

Falcon Ridge will also use PCI Express 3.0 technology outside the PC and use copper cables.
