In May of 2010, the company confirmed that it accidentally collected data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks in over 30 countries. That data included email addresses.
Later that year, the company signed a deal that it would delete all such data, but they have yet to complete the task, and therefore notified Britain's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
"The ICO is clear that this information should never have been collected in the first place and the company's failure to secure its deletion as promised is a cause for concern," reads the ICO's statement.
In their notification to the ICO, Google had this to say: "Google has recently confirmed that it still has in its possession a small portion of ... data collected by our Street View vehicles in the UK. Google apologizes for this error."
