Samsung unveils new Galaxy Player 5.8 PMP

Samsung unveils new Galaxy Player 5.8 PMP
Samsung has announced the launch of their new Galaxy Player 5.8, adding the new size to the current range of PMPs including the 3.6, 4.2 and 5.0.

The new 5.8 features a 960 x 540 LCD and includes front-facing speakers, 1GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, and educational apps and content already pre-loaded.

Android 4.0 is installed at launch, and should be 10.8mm thick.

So far the device has only been announced for Korea, so a global launch is unknown as is pricing.

It is also unclear how Apple's recent patent victory will affect the launch.

Watch out for idiots calling it the iPhone in hopes of a big payout from the Apple corporation. Because you know the iPhone does Everthing the Galaxy player does... (sarcasm)

I mean if Apple hits one Korean company why not another, right?

    A little slim on specs...
With HD being the norm, this seems a bit off.

Oh, Im sorry... Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?

Large screen but poor resolution. Back to the drawing board.

Hrm...I've been looking for something like this. This is more of a competitor for the iPod Touch. The reso on the iPod is still 960x640. I hope Samsung bumps it up to at least be the resolution of the iPod in the final product. I'd have gotten an iPod Touch long ago if I didn't have to sync it with iTunes (of course...my position on that changed to "will never buy regardless" after the lawsuit).

I'd also be very interested if it had a mini-hdmi out and a USB host adapter. Would possibly be useful as a mini-computer. The mini-HDMI out could also possibly display 1080p videos on a TV (like my cheap Chinese Android tablet does...even though the screen is only 800x600 or so).
