Samsung posts internal memo regarding loss to Apple
As undoubtedly the entire world knows by now, Apple recently won its patent lawsuit against its largest rival, Samsung.

The jury ruled that Samsung owes $1.049 billion in damages for infringing on seven patents that Apple owns, mainly related to design and certain functions of smartphones.

Samsung has released an internal memo, showing they do not plan to give up, especially since they won the same case in multiple other nations before losing here.

The memo:

On Friday, August 24, 2012, the jury verdict in our trial against Apple was announced at the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

We initially proposed to negotiate with Apple instead of going to court, as they had been one of our most important customers. However, Apple pressed on with a lawsuit, and we have had little choice but to counter-sue, so that we can protect our company.

Certainly, we are very disappointed by the verdict at the US District Court for the Northern District of California (NDCA), and it is regrettable that the verdict has caused concern amongst our employees, as well as our loyal customers.

However, the judge's final ruling remains, along with a number of other procedures. We will continue to do our utmost until our arguments have been accepted.

The NDCA verdict starkly contrasts decisions made by courts in a number of other countries, such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and Korea, which have previously ruled that we did not copy Apple's designs. These courts also recognized our arguments concerning our standards patents.

History has shown there has yet to be a company that has won the hearts and minds of consumers and achieved continuous growth, when its primary means to competition has been the outright abuse of patent law, not the pursuit of innovation.

We trust that the consumers and the market will side with those who prioritize innovation over litigation, and we will prove this beyond doubt.

I pray the appeals will go Samsung's way. I will never buy any apple product. In fact, when my Zune hd (xmas present from a couple years back) should eventually die, I would be happy to purchase a Galaxy Player as a replacement. Hell, I would rather get a no-name rinky-dink $15 mp3 player over an iGouge.

90%+ of consumers don't care, though.

Just sue those Apple f*****s in downtown Seoul.
That ought to see things balanced up a bit.

(it's noteable that Apple couldn't get a win on this in the UK, Germany or Holland. They had to go to San Jose in the USA - their hometown)

When Apple was just abusing their own zombie customers, I actually approved...they get what they deserve for supporting apple...but now that Apple is attacking Samsung for making better products, by using patents that were clearly shown (in court) as being copies of prior art, well...let's just say if I had a working DeathNote, the first page would list Apple's entire senior staff and most of their lawyers (except the Woz...he is an oldschool hacker and I have a hard time believing that he supports all this).

That's true to the core... Samsung should have put in for a change of venue on that issue alone for the simple fact that they couldn't get a fair shake that that community would be biased.

As long as Samsung continues to make great products, I will make it a point to support them financially by buying their products if it's a close decision between them and another vendor. Regardless of how good Apple products might/might not be, I will not support them financially due to their actions against Samsung. I despise patent trolling, which is what Apple looks like it's doing here.

Apple pays virtually no tax in the USA and the majority of its work is carried out overseas. Screw 'em. If they were contributing their share to the american community that's one thing, but they are just freeloaders and leeches who have somehow managed to attract a shedload of fanbois by selling them overpriced crap.

Pretty good joke... But like bogwart said, Apple avoids paying their fair share of taxes so I don't think the president would be smiling if that were the case.

On the other hand, IF that were Apple shutting down Reddit, kudos to one of their 'geniuses' finally getting an education.

Past that, Samsung should get their appeal in a new venue & settle for 25 billion in their counter suit. Just to make sure Apple feels it. Seeing as Apple likes to brag about it.

This was a patent case between multinational companies. They should have got half the jurors from Korea to level the playing field. May be even Korean origin people would also be ok.

From my own past eeperience of having lived and worked in Chicago for 7 years I can say that $$$ are the only thing that work in the US.
