One feature that critics were less favorable of was the fact that all of the devices came with Amazon's Special Offers by default, shaving some money off the list price for all consumers but also placing ads on the lock screen.
While the ads are normally pretty unobtrusive, as far as ads go, not everyone wants to see them whenever their device goes to screensaver.
Today, Amazon has confirmed there is a way out.
Users can pay $15 to opt-out of the ads for as long as they own the device: "We know from our Kindle reader line that customers love our special offers and very few people choose to opt out. We're happy to offer customers the choice."
This new offer is cheaper than the $30 it cost to opt-out of the original Kindle reader with Special Offers.
