Pachter: Wii U projected attach rate 'unrealistic'
Nintendo's numbers are too optimistic, Pacther believes.

The Wii U console launches in just a few weeks time, and Nintendo is projecting about 5.5 million units to be sold in the 2013 financial year. It also predicts the sale of 24 million Wii U software units, which suggests an attach rate exceeding four to one.

Pachter notes that this prediction "is highly unrealistic given pricing and release slate."

"Wii U will fight for holiday wallet share with the existing consoles (which have the bulk of their most compelling releases in the December quarter), Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, and Apple's iPad Mini, among a slew of other devices," he wrote.

He did, however, acknowledge that the Wii U software line-up is rather positive. Launch day titles include Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty: Black Ops II, EA Sports' FIFA Soccer 13, Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land, and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III and ZombiU.

"However, demand will probably wane once Nintendo's core fan base has purchased the first 5 - 6 million units, negatively impacting long-term hardware and software sales as well."

For now, Pachter recommends avoiding Nintendo stock.

No doubt this statement will be followed up with "PS4" teaser images and leaked graphics of projects in works to pursuade people not to buy a Wii U. Catch my drift?

LOL, I would not put it past this jack hole. He is more then likely working for Microsoft rather then Sony. Sony dont have the money to spend on dumbass comments from over ratted annalists. Patcher's statements are also at the same BS level as Microsoft's "Wii U is an just an XBox with a tablet" And the anon Devs that were talking trash about Wii U being under powered turned out to be from companies owned by Microsoft.

Funny thing is, Nintendo held off on release until they built up enough stock so they would not have a repeat of the Wii shortage, and even with the massive amounts of Wii Us, Nintendo is still coming up short in supply.

But I can see how they wont reach their sales goal. I mean, they only reached 1/2 of it so far and the system hasn't been released yet.

Who buys a system and within a year haven't purchased four games? How is it "highly unrealistic" that people will want to play games on their system? I've already preordered Mario and ZombiU in addition to NintendoLand that comes with the system. So I need two more in a year... Rayman is being hyped as a must play for the system, and it seems Pikmin 3 is enough to buy a system for many. This guy has his head up someone's ass!

I love jackhole analysts.. They spit out controversal crap just to keep themselves in the headlines to fill their own ego. I pre-orderd my Wii U with 2 games (3 if you count Nintendoland that comes with the premium system) so I do not think a 4 to 1 ratio is at all unrealistic. It would be 5 to 1 if they had a Zelda game coming out in the next year.
