Best Buy accidentally sends customer 5 iPads but lets her keep them
Earlier this week, a woman purchased an iPad for her son through Best Buy.

The company, through some strange glitch, ended up sending her five. After emailing Best Buy to let them know what had happened, she then contacted the Consumerist asking what she should do in the situation.

Consumerist was able to get in touch with Best Buy, after Alexa couldn't:

Good afternoon, Alexa. Laura, from the Consumerist, contacted us here at Best Buy on your behalf. First and foremost, I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate your honesty. That is so rare in this day and age and I sincerely thank you! We here at Best Buy acknowledge that we obviously made a mistake, but in the spirit of the holidays, we encourage you to keep the additional iPads and give them to people in need -- friends, family, a local school or charity.

Happy holidays, all.

Not the experience I've had with Best Buy, Andre Yoskowitz - if you want to write a good story, let me tell you about the 55" Samsung LED advertised as a smart TV (SKU6846823) sold at Best Buy On-line on 11/21/2012. After having the TV delivered and professionally installed, I find out it was not a smart TV and Best Buy confirmed via email that they advertised it incorrectly. I've talked to over 6 people at their customer service transferred to Post Sales Support and they will not send me the correct TV or offer any compensation other than a $20 gift card. The above article shows a great gesture, but not anything close to what I've experienced. Any suggestions? I'm thinking small claims court but that's a pain in the butt! BestBuy is very unethical in there business practices!! Andre - email me and i'll send you the documentation if you can help edited by ddp

Its a very simple idea. Sometimes it is not always about the best price.

At the store level, it's a crap shoot whether you get good service, depending on the management (like most chains). If you ever feel screwed over by a retailer and the store isn't fixing it to your satisfaction, call the corporate office and tell them you tried dealing with the local store, but they were uncooperative and you don't care to talk to them further.

The LG TV I bought from them a couple months ago had many more options than what Best Buy advertised on their site. Mistakes happen and all I think you can do is complain and return it but let this be a lesson to double check before you add to cart.

Why should I have to incur the expense of unhooking, demounting, and taking it back to he store?

You shouldn't. Assuming you bought it with a credit card you can take it up with the credit card company. They should offer a refund due to false advertising and then they will fight with Best Buy for the money and they will likely succeed as they have more influence. It is how I got my money back on the £1300 laptop which was never delivered, and the company didn't reply to any communication for over a month then announced they were going out of business.

So have a go at contacting your credit card company. Also distance selling regulations mean that you should be able to take it back if it wasn't suitable as they have to give you a chance to try it.
