Google: No native Gmail or Drive apps for Windows 8, WP8

Google: No native Gmail or Drive apps for Windows 8, WP8
The search giant sees no interest.

Google Apps product management director Clay Bavor has noted today that the company has no plans to develop native Gmail, Drive or other business app products for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8.

The exec did not rule out apps for the future but did say there was no interest from its clients on the systems: "We have no plans to build out Windows apps. We are very careful about where we invest and will go where the users are but they are not on Windows Phone or Windows 8. If that changes, we would invest there, of course."

Bavor says the company remains 100% committed to iOS and Android, with ongoing updates and improvements.

Additionally, he added: "We really see these as the first versions of our mobile experience, though, so we will continue to make big investments in mobile in 2013 with the goal of having beautiful mobile apps."

I don't even use these apps on my Android phone. I'm not sure there are many Windows Phone users (or Windows 8 users) who are going to miss these apps.

Yep, GMail can be read from any regular pop3/imap reader; even Outlook.com can get it. And Nokia's drive app is far better than Google's. What many users are missing, don't ask me why, is Instagram.

My sister got a new laptop with Windows 8 on it. I have no idea how she will figure out how to use it. I played with it for over an hour and everything is confusing on there.

Well it seems that Google finally stomped their foot down and said None of our apps in your OS, hell no!!

Keep pushing those crappy chromebooks Google. Don't need a native GMAIL app anyway and there are plenty of other free online storage solutions out there anyway. Besides Skydrive integrates into WindowsPhone8 and Windows8/RT Google would not compare.

    AMD Phenom II 965 @ 3.67Ghz, 8GB DDR3, ATI Radeon 5770HD, 256GB OCZ Vertex 4, 2TB Additional HDD, Windows 7 Ultimate.
