Production of the 9.7-inch LCDs have "fallen to a minimal level" in Japan, says the sources, following a trend that began after the iPad Mini was launched at the beginning of November last year.
The slowdown may just be for seasonality reasons, say the sources, but they believe it to be a demand shift towards the 7.9-inch iPad Mini.
By many accounts, the iPad Mini is on the verge of outselling its full-sized brother, already, just two months after launch. Apple will report their earnings next week.
The company is also expected to launch a new iPad (and possibly a new iPad Mini) in March.
