Sony settles its breach of contract suit against 'Kevin Butler' actor
In 2010, Sony began a new marketing campaign that included comedic actor Jerry Lambert as Kevin Butler, an alleged Sony VP of whatever the company was marketing in that ad.

The character and the ads were an instant hit, and Sony has stuck with them ever since, letting Butler introduce most new features and items for the PlayStation 3. In September of last year, Lambert took a job with Bridgestone for their "Game On" promotion. In the commercial, Lambert is portrayed playing a Nintendo Wii console. Sony was not happy and filed suit against Bridgestone Tires and Wildcat Creek, the ad agency behind the commercials. The company said Kevin Butler is their intellectual property and seeing Lambert playing a Wii will confuse consumers and hurt the brand.

As of this week, Lambert (Wildcat Creek) has settled while Bridgestone and Sony continue to battle it out in District Court.

In the settlement, Lambert acknowledged that his contract with Sony barred him from promoting competing game consoles, which the Wii certainly is. The actor also acknowledged that consumers may have been confused and believed he was playing Butler in the Bridgestone ads, as well.

As part of the settlement, Lambert will not appear in any ad or promotion that features or mentions "any other video game or computer entertainment system or video game company" for the next two years.

That answers that question one and for all "The company said Kevin Butler is their intellectual property" Sony believes they can own people. How do they get away with saying things like that. Ah massive amounts of money lets you do anything you want.
    Sorry guys I forgot.

Kevin Butler is a character, not a person. Jerry Lambert may make up most of who Kevin Butler is, but as long as the style of the PS3 materials featuring him isn't copied, there's no problem. The Bridgestone ad had him acting somewhat the same way and ended up mentioning a competing console. Whether that was ignorance or stupidity, it's still potentially damaging. He's appeared in several other ads since too, so it's not him working with anyone else that's a problem.

Quote:In the settlement, Lambert acknowledged that his contract with Sony barred him from promoting competing game consoles sounds like a good enough reason to sue.if he didnt agree with the contract he shouldn't of agreed to it.

"playing a Wii will confuse consumers and hurt the brand"

Another reason I hate Sony.. We are al mindless sheep who choose what console we are going to buy and enjoy by whatever fictional character is portrayed to us as "Cool" playing it.

well I guess if Kevin Butlers doing it why the hell arent we? Time to go get a new pair of boxers that read "WWKBD?"

Kevin should immediately have himself scanned for a Sony chip embedded somewhere in his body.
