All PlayStation 4 games will be available for download

All PlayStation 4 games will be available for download
According to Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, every PlayStation 4 game will be available for digital download.

"PS4 will be similar to PS Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc," said the exec.

More importantly, Yoshida says there is the possibility of a subscription service once there is a large enough PS4 library. "As more and more services and contents become available digitally, we'll have more of an option to create attractive packages. So hypothetically we can look at different models – like a cable TV company. We could have gold, silver or platinum levels of membership, something like that. We can do subscription services when we have more content – especially now that we have the Gaikai technology available. With one subscription you have access to thousands of games – that's our dream."

Downloading games that are likely 20GB or more is not feasible for most America, as Internet speeds still lack and many ISPs enforce bandwidth caps, so there is the possibility that Gaikai's streaming game service could be used for streaming games.

Eh on the other hand I see their entire catalog ripe for the picking once they get it hacked...

I don't like the idea of these "memberships".. it sounds like the may screw over existing PS+ customers with this sort of thing after stating it would be the same on the new platform.

I just want to see how many idiots buy this new system and then complain when they find out they cannot play used games on them!

    Should be very entertaining!

One thing is for sure, I would NEVER buy a system that would not let me play used games.

I will stick with PC games if consoles go to this.

Though I have a very strange feeling that the "backlash" from consumers will make the Sony "Root Kit" debacle look like a picnic!

They've already stated that the PS4 will play used games, however there may be an options of game makers to block this if the new patent is used. Only time will tell how many (Ubisoft) companies (EA) will (Blizzard) attempt (Atari) to employ this method.

There is talk that some ISPs may have specific subscriptions for people that have a system that mostly uses downloadable content. If the new era of gaming is getting closer and closer to no physical disks then ISPs may start allowing unlimited bandwidth for a higher fee.

As demand goes up for more bandwidth, supply must go up as well.

    This is superman

Wow. this line caught my attention: "some will also be available as a disc". If most titles are only available via streaming, then yes, no more used games. This sucks. I thought they would ALSO offer games via the PSN, but it looks like they are going to exclusively offer the games through the PSN. I won't buy it. They probably won't offer BC either which means I will have to have a ps2, a ps3, and a ps4 in my setup, which of course I won't do.

EB Games store in Australia boycotted Sony's PSP Go and refused to sell it when it was launched because it did not use physical media. I bet they won't like this news.

Video shops have been closing up everywhere due to downloadable media. It's only a matter of time this will happens to video game stores across the globe. Times are changing I guess.
