Charity auction for coffee with Tim Cook ends at $610,000
A last second bidder has led to a $610,000 final auction price for coffee with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

All the proceeds go to charity and so far the bidder, going by the name "a********s," has remained anonymous. The auction had stagnated at $605,000 until the last 30 minutes.

CharityBuzz hosted the auction, along with 118 others to support the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights.

Earlier in the bidding process, bidding totals were running out of control as bidders looked for their 15 seconds of fame knowing they would be outbid. CharityBuzz then implemented bank qualification terms, which slowed the bids to a crawl.

The winner of the auction gets a 60 minute meeting with Cook at Apple's headquarters at a mutually agreed upon date.

'A fool and his money are soon parted.'

Apple are one of the least charitable organisations around... unless you count product placement.

Y'know, it kind of ticks me off that during the Great Recession there are tools with enough spare money to blow on this nonsense. Probably a recipient of corporate welfare.

So donating over $100 million in 2012 is nothing notable?

So things have changed since Jobs.

There's some argument it came on the heels of:

That's insignificant spare change for a company of the size of Apple. Compare that to what other rich companies and people donate, or to what they spend on commercials alone. Donating is also a form of advertising, and it gives some good tax benefits, too. Don't misunderstand that as generosity, because it's quite the opposite in this particular case.

i think it could sound more marketing oriented if it would be, "cook with cook", oh well, i don't know whether cook knows a little bit of cooking, he must be an icook only...
