Poll: 71 percent believe Apple has lost its innovative touch
According to a new global poll by Bloomberg, Apple has lost its innovative touch, the "magic" that once led it to become the biggest public company in the world.

71 percent of all poll respondents say the company is no longer an industry innovator, with 28 percent saying they believe it is permanent. 43 percent believe Apple has just lost its way temporarily.

23 percent of respondents remained loyal, saying Apple is still the best in the business while the remaining 6 percent were unsure.

Despite the lack of innovation, the company remains a monster powerhouse in the smartphone and tablet industry. The iPhone accounts for over 60 percent of the smartphone industry's profits and the company brought in $41.7 in net income last year alone.

Apple's shares have struggled in the last year, falling from a high of $702 to just $433 today.

They lost it a years ago but their marketing and past reputation kept them floating for a little while longer.

"...23 percent of respondents remained loyal, saying Apple is still the best in the business." (aka: the sheeple) Brand loyalty is one thing, but the iPhone is outclassed in almost every way by modern 'droid phones like the S4. -not that it matters to those with blinders on their heads.

Bigger screen with some gimmicks doesn't equal innovation. I don't think apple has innovated for years but neither has anyone else

you think note II is a just a phone with bigger screen plus gimmicks? if samsung has ever been considered to be an innovator in phone industry, note II is a legacy example indeed. if you can't stand 5.5", let's stop here. if you can, try note II, and you will be surprised.
and regarding apple...i can't believe once this company made the entire tech industry learn about simple yet powerful design and features. now, what they are doing?

    macs:
    # they eliminated ODD from MBPs, okay given the current trend to reduce weight by cutting off much less used hardware but oops, they removed it from imacs and mac minis, too...what the heck? don't they even know the difference between a laptop and a desktop?
    # they pulled off ethernet from MBPs, blunder. you find wifi everywhere, really apple?
    # they could never ever consider blu-ray, and now, it is world std for HD.
    # they were adamant not to use world std. HDMI in MBPs, finally, they gave up.
    # they took off numpad from 17" MBPs and imac keyboard, such an useful part of "these" configurations! and now, they removed 17".

    iphone:
    # whether it is iphone or ipod or ipad, all are controlled by crappy itunes which does not even let you import photos/videos from different directories/folders/partitions/drives.
    # no microSD which means you pay super high to get the highest storage.
    # and, they won't offer larger screens. come on, some folks need it.
personally, i don't have as much complaints about iphone as i do have about itunes.

Whatever goes up must come down. That's how this world works.

Apple was on the top and it has been declining. The world knows that. They know that. They know they don't have any true innovation. All they have are an array of expensive devices that do the same thing but vary in sizes.

So whatever Apple is cooking up (no pun intended, Tim Cook) better be good if they want to be alive. iWatch...iTV....something has to put them back in the lead.

For what I think, they wont be able to take over the phone industry. They have to work on something else. Android is not going to die easily. Unless Apple makes a phone that wipes your butt for you, then they have a chance.

If they really go with a flat design for iOS 7 and never revert to what people actually LIKE about iOS and OS X, I will just have to hope my iPhone 5 lives forever (on iOS 6.1.2).

Way too high a price & not enough spec compared to the competition along with some highly dubious reliability.

That'll kill any brand in the end, regardless of how successful if once was.

They used to be the maverick brand that claimed to take chances (and I suppose they did take some) but then their image devolved into a brand for "the elite". I suppose you can only sustain that sort of hype for so long without actually moving forward somehow... no matter how much you pay for ads written into 'Girls'.

Quote:...the biggest public company in the world. Quite hard to believe they are (were) bigger than Google. That bubble HAD to burst. What's the deal with them and just starting to pay dividends anyway... were you just meant to make money swapping shares about?

They just copy everyone and say they are innovative. Apple said once something like this "best ideas are copied".

What other public company has got away with not paying dividends for so long? It could just not be sustained. What were you meant to do, borrow against your Apple shares like a home mortgage? They had a dividend payout after Jobs... they had to. And now they're finally involved in some charity work... over which Jobs would have spewed.

I've hated Apple ever since they were convicted of stealing what Creative invented and putting it in the iPod. That's an example of Apple "innovation". The only thing original or innovative about Apple is its marketing. I guess their backwards thinking technology is original, and then they make it look innovative with pure marketing spin.

All that being said, those stupid iPads are probably the best tablet out there. I'll never use one as my primary tablet, but I've bought 3 of them for my family.

As for the Note 2 comments above, I own a Note 2 and it's the most innovative device I've ever purchased. Android now has a 75% market share of all mobile OS and 95% of that is Samsung. Clearly, Samsung is doing something right and they're doing it better than Apple by far.
