Microsoft: Xbox One will support indie devs

Microsoft: Xbox One will support indie devs
Last week, it was reported that the new Xbox One would not allow indie developers to self-publish games for the console.

Understandably, developers and gamers alike were very critical of the news but now it appears that Microsoft will include some kind of support for indie development.

"We're going to have an independent creator program," says Don Mattrick, Microsoft's head of interactive entertainment. "We're going to sponsor it. We're going to give people tools. We're going to give more information."

Of the program, itself, Mattrick said "We're going to have an independent creator program... There's no way we're going to build a box that doesn't support that."

"But we have no problem not supporting used games."

Right now I'm more interested in the $1 billion investment in Xbox One games being reported.

There's no way a company such as MS would change their minds once set either: but obviously that has happened nearly every time they launch a product.

The team at MS is completely unified and understand their products to the letter: they also appear to forget how to communicate appropriately to consumers, developers and partners on what exactly it is they are selling and why.

I am waiting but their method of having the games installed to the console with online DRM activation leaves the door open to instantly block any sort of used games of borrowing of games. Certain developers could easily implement something like this and somehow I think that is the ultimate goal.

LOL. Only a fool would have believed that The new Xbox would not support indie game development. How stupid would you have to be... ?

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Yeah right...that worked out so well with Xbox 360 in the early days for PS3 eh?

Love the way the Sony fans imagine PS4 is 'it' this time around when even less is known about it at this stage.

Wonder what would happen if the early teething problems this time around centre on the Sony product?
That would be quite amusing, I think.
