Samsung's half-camera, half-phone Galaxy S4 Zoom coming next week
Samsung has promised to reveal new products on June 20th at a press event in London.

One of the devices is the Galaxy S4 Zoom, the company's smartphone/digital camera hybrid. Sam was able to get a picture of the device, which should be interesting especially if having a high-end camera with your phone is important to you.

The device has a 4.3" qHD sAMOLED display, runs on Android 4.2.2, a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, a microSD slot, and the standard Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and A-GPS. It is unclear whether the device will have LTE support.

For the camera, the device has a 16MP sensor with optical zoom. The device has a shutter button and the volume rockers second as zoom buttons when in camera mode.

Haha wow. Will people really use that thing? Samsung is going overboard with all these S4s.

My wife has only one question... how much?

I'm a bit shocked how anti many people are about a optically high-quality camera phone. It makes sense to me. Sure, it's not for everyone but there is a market for it.

My wife's a photographer... sure, she has a proper SLR but she loves the idea of a decent snapper with phone capabilities ...and even a lens that size makes a big difference.

I'm not expecting a very reasonable price though...

Make it waterproof to 50ft and shock resistant and I'd buy one. Kind of like a go-pro and a nice phone combined. That would be my ideal device.

A lot would depend on how far the lens protrudes beyond the phone body. I remember around 14-15 years ago when Casio came out with their first avatar of Exilim range of cameras. These were truly the first credit card size cameras around 7 to 8 mm thick. These employed the world's first ceramic lens having very high refractive index. If the lens elements on this camera are made out of such glass it just might be pocketable.
