China to lift 13-year-old ban on foreign video game consoles
According to the China Daily, China will lift its long-standing ban on foreign video game consoles.

Earlier this year, sources claimed Chinese government officials had confirmed the end of the ban, but it did not appear to be true at the time.

Console makers Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft should be happy with the decision, as they may have a chance to break into a market with over 1.5 billion citizens.

Of course, the ban will not be completely revoked, as manufacturers will need to sign China's new Shanghai free trade zone.

Quote:China will lift its long-standing ban on foreign video game consoles. Do they have their own official consoles?

And why were they banned in the first place... too decadent?

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

I think at one point the Chinese government labeled video games as electronic cracks. I believe they banned the consoles to combat laziness? Hahaha. Anyhow, that was a decade ago, with the rise of internet users, there are so many Chinese playing online games the government probably can't call everyone a crackhead :-P

    Peace!

Think about it. If they lift the ban on consoles, then maybe the top three will start making all of their consoles, accessories and games in China. Wouldn't that just be wonderful!!!!

Dude, that can be interpreted both ways... Because of the ban, people try to create copies to meet demands. Some of the imitation stuff is actually pretty good and probably inspired new products and such.

It's easier for the Chinese government to ban the consoles to make a point than catching those imitation makers (just like hackers, you shut one down, two more will spawn).

    Peace!
