Ubisoft: We expect 'Watch Dogs' to move 6 million units
Major publisher Ubisoft has said today that it expects the upcoming "Watch Dogs" game to sell 6 million units, making it one of the biggest releases of the year.

The company says all of its expectations are for the game to match the original Assassin's Creed, which moved 6.2 million.

"What is true is that three months ago when we announced our results, we were kind of referencing that we, in our plan, we had built up Watch Dogs with expectation slightly below what Assassin's Creed 1 did when it was first released--and it was 6.2 million," added Ubisoft. "So after E3, what we said today was that we do feel that we can expect...slightly above the 6.2 million that Assassin's Creed did."

Watch Dogs will be released for the Xbox 360, Wii U, PS3, PC, PS4 and the Xbox One in November and December.

I will be buying it as soon as the crippling DRM is removed. Guessing on this game that will mean a long wait. Oh and having it released on steam will help a lot.

What DRM are you talking about? It doesnt require an online connection.

No online connection = no DRM.

    Give your head a shake.

ummm, I don't think you know what DRM is. Maybe you should click that in-line hotlink and read the faq. Just because its not AS extreme as some other ones, Ubisoft have always practiced over the top DRM policies.

I'll stick my foot up your ass.

In terms of computer and console games, it's also a method of preventing people from tampering with the software. In either case, it usually requires an authentication with some kind of server, which denotes an internet connection.

The exception being an example like GTA IV where the game becomes unplayable through gameplay mechanics themselves, like guns not firing or a character not responding to commands, and those mechanics are only implemented if a pirated or altered copy of the game is detected.

So again, unless you plan on stealing the game, what DRM are you talking about?

Watch_Dogs DOES NOT require an internet connection!

I think your miffed about it just for something to do. :-\

The hell is wrong with you? lamain said he will not be buying the game until the DRM is removed, as he clearly does not want to support draconian and anti-consumer practices, you then said that since you believe it wont need a 24 hour server authentication it doesn't count as DRM, then you go on to say that you know what DRM is, and still claim this isn't DRM.

Watch_Dogs DOES require an internet connection!

I think your just in a desperate need to defend very powerful entities that honestly don't need your pathetic sympathy :-\

I'll stick my foot up your ass.

I'm going to just assume you're internet-challenged and provide you with a link, as you obviously are incapable of checking facts. I'll even provide you with a few, just so you can be sure it's not a trick.

    http://www.explosion.com/32436/watch-dogs-can-be-played-entirely-offline/

    http://www.gamesnews.ca/ubisoft-watch-dogs-can-be-played-completely-offline/

    http://www.oxm.co.uk/58142/ubisoft-watch-dogs-is-designed-to-be-always-online-but-this-isnt-a-requirement/

Now then... Please explain to me what YOUR definition of DRM is, and how exactly it's been implemented in Watch Dogs, because obviously you're wrong about it actually requiring an internet connection. Unless you're going to argue that the Senior Producer on the game is wrong about this.

If you're talking about an install limit on the disc for the PC version of the game, I would direct you to this article.

    http://techreport.com/news/23519/ubisoft-cans-activation-limits-always-on-drm

Now I'll grant you that article is almost a year old, but I don't remember hearing that they reversed their position on this again.

Your insinuations that I'm somehow a lobbyist for "draconian and anti-consumer" corporate agendas is cute. I remember what teenage angst was like. Keep on fightin' the man.

As far as Lamain goes, I'd bet he just had outdated and/or mistaken info.

Hahahahah, oh boy, you apologist are always the same, as long as they make your toys you will bend over backwards to support anything won't you? You will probably kill other people to get your fix. Gamers seem to suffer the most of this condition, just like the immature overgrown children they are.

First let us address the DRM point you seem to have some blind inability to understand:

Quote:DRM doesn't mean just basic copy-protection of digital content (like ebooks, MP3s or DivX videos), but it basically means full protection for digital content, ranging from delivery to end user's ways to use the content. By the time it is published, by its very definition, the game will feature some form of DRM. Even your links state that. By the very nature of the new X-Box, it will have DRM. As for the PC version:
Quote:Ubisoft has announced that it's officially scrapped two of the most annoying features from its PC game DRM: activation limits and the requirement for an always-on Internet connection.

oh wow, you were right, them 'maybe' scrapping two 'features' of the DRM it still HAS, means it obviously doesn't have DRM anymore! OH JOY! Let us peasants dance on the streets and celebrate, by decree of our lord CDNBC250 (oohhh, such the bad-ass "hacker" name)
Ubisoft and most of the large publishers always feature DRM in the END product, regardless if it is your own belief that it is NOT DRM unless it meets your personal arbitrary definition of what DRM is.

Now let us see about addressing your blatant inability to comprehend that there are people in the world that have principles, and will not surrender them for the chance to play with a shinny new toy for a few hours. People that are your better, kid. People that have developed the technology and the very basic architecture which you use. People like Richard Stallman, Steve Wozniak, Cory Doctorow , Aaron Swartz (he literally died for your sins). But hey, don't let them stop you from getting to live your dream to murder hookers and steal cars in a 3D environment. As long as you get your new toys, I know you'll gladly lube your way to indifference. Woot! Get that X-Box One rolling Microsoft, the kids are crying for their new toys already, Waaah waaah, we want to play, we want to play! We don't care if we pay for you to film us in our own homes, we want to play! More toys, more toys! Hoooray, Santa came!
And don't forget your GATORADE! chug it down like the good man-child you are!

I'll stick my foot up your ass.
