Sony responds to Xbox One's free FIFA game offer

Sony responds to Xbox One's free FIFA game offer
Last week, Microsoft announced it would be offering free FIFA 14 with Xbox One pre-orders in Europe.

Sony responded to the offer, calling the offer "kind of odd." Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan says Sony has no reason to offer a similar deal, as they do not expect to have any issues with demand.

"Why should we do that?" Ryan added. "Our problem is gonna be matching supply to demand. It's perfectly rational when a platform holder, or indeed a publisher, runs a preorder campaign to engage in promotional behavior to dial it up if you feel it's not where you need it to be. That's a rational thing for any businessman to do. We're perfectly happy with where our preorder are."

"Why would we go out and add something? Giving away stuff on day one of a new platform launch, in my mind it's kind of odd," he concluded.

Microsoft's free FIFA offer is good for all existing and new pre-orders.

A nicer way of stating the obvious "Microsoft is reeking of desperation"

Yep, no reason to give away free stuff if you are confident in your product and your pricing.

Um...BOTH Microsoft and Sony are offering free consoles and games to GameStop managers and some others...and is a standard marketing move.

Oh really, bundling is "reeking of desperation", is it?

Sony France must be so desperate

The cash price is higher than a bare console but compared to getting the stuff separately it's a decent deal (higher than but quite close to the Xbox One price with game - there's about £16 in it - cos of postage - which would go a good way to a 2nd controller for Xbox One).

    Ps4 349
    Controller 55
    Camera 55
    Game 44
    = £503

    £503 - £436 = £67 saving with this bundle.

Not that this will stop the fanboy nonsense about bundles "reeking of desperation"....but only when it's the other corporation they don't 'support'.

The fact is for the full range of PS4 features you need the camera....which closes the gap to Xbox One (not forgetting Kinect 2 is superior to PS Eye).
Not that the fanboys care to admit it :P

Kinect and The Eye is technology that most gamers do not care about. I guess Microsoft having the Kinect 2 gives them one up in the market? Is this some of that fanboy nonsense you were talking about?

So the 5 people in the UK to get one get a free copy....how nice......

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

That and the usual ludicrous claim to speak on behalf of "most gamers".
Kinect 1 alone has sold 24 million.
PS Eye for PS3 sold 15 million at the last released numbers in 2012.

It remains to be seen just what devs will do with Kinect 2, the PS4 Eye I also expect to open up some interesting ideas....and it is already a fact that some PS4 features won't work without it.

My ludicrous claim, is not me speaking for other gamers, they have already spoke for themselves. What total Kinect game has sold close to 2o million units. By your reasoning there is 20 million units in homes just waiting to be used. Can you name a game the has been modestly popular? I've seen the great Kinect catalog, a bunch of games that belong in the bargain bin with Barbie and the big hunter games. Every game that sounded half way decent for Kinect has been cancelled.

And the part I liked the best is we do not know what developers will do with the Kinect down the road argument you had. And we do not know what they are going to do with the RT Tablet, the new windows phone and windows 8. Maybe someday developers will make all those products worthwhile to own in the future. I like your future argument, just someday in the Kinect will be worthwhile. And you called me ludicrous.

From the information I have come across those "freebies" are coming from Gamestop to their employees NOT from Sony, MS or Ninty.

Freebie & Bundling is not the same. Bundle = Savings but at a higher price over base price for the consumer. The MS freebie is completely a band aid for the delays and drop in launch countries from 21 to 13. Jookycola got it right ~ this reeks of desperation with everything in totality that MS has changed to help gain back sales/pre-orders etc.
