Toshiba unveils Qosmio X75 gaming laptop

Toshiba has revealed their latest high-end gaming laptop, the Qosmio X75.

The device has a 17.3-inch 1080p display, a fourth generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M discrete graphics chipset with Optimus technology and 3GB of DDR5 video memory.



For storage, the X75 has an SSD boot drive, a 1TB hybrid hard drive, and a Blu-ray Disc re-writable optical drive.

In addition, the X75 packs quad Harman Kardon speakers and UltraHD (4K) output via HDMI.

If you are a video editing professional (or even an enthusiast), Toshiba has pre-loaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and Adobe Premiere Elements 11.

The base model of the laptop starts at $1,399.99.

  I have the previous generation of this laptop, and have taken it on 3 deployments overseas. One thing I can vouch for is the quality of this thing. This is the first laptop I've ever had that survived more than one deployment due to sandstorms, rough handling, etc...
  
  That being said, I had the older 18.4 inch model, and OMG was that thing a burden to carry around. Laptop in name only.

  Buyer beware! I also have an older 18.4" Qosmio, and they have serious, notorious problems with bad application of thermal paste/heat sinks, resulting in overheating of both the CPU and GPU. Simply google "qosmio overheating". In addition, in my Qosmio, they used the nVidia 360M chipset, which as it happens, is a buggy mess; neither Toshiba or nVidia has any available recourse for this, beyond replacing the graphics.
  
  It's also quite frustrating that there is no way to turn of the Hyperthreading feature of the i7. HT is NOT useful for gaming!
  
  And last, as DarthMopar mentions above, they are ridiculously heavy. The 18.4" model weighs 9.7 lbs, with the 2-3 lb. power brick left out.

  Haha, if it doesn't kill you, should make you stronger :)
  
  Great to see this help our service men, but still not a desktop which i'm most fond of...

  Mine came with 2 drive bays plus the Blu-Ray, so you can expand/change the storage. RAM, of course, is also expandable. As far as I know, the graphics chipset is discrete, and therefore replaceable, as well. Otherwise, like most laptops, it isn't all that upgradeable.
  
  Don't get me wrong, I still like my Qosmio at least a little. I've found ways around the graphics overheating (due to both bad thermal paste AND a weird "race condition" on bootup with the 360M), so that's also less of an issue now. I just want people to be aware of definite problems with the assembly process; if you are under warranty, you can *force* Toshiba to fix any issues. Mine was open-box from Newegg, so no warranty for me =/ ...
