Google Glass results in ticket for California driver

Google Glass results in ticket for California driver
A California driver was given a ticket when pulled over by a police officer for speeding and for wearing Google Glass while driving.

Cecilia Abadie posted a picture of the ticket given by the police officer on her Google+ page, seeking legal advice. Abadie claims the Google gear was not even switched on when the cop pulled her over.

On the ticket the officer described her infraction as: "Driving with Monitor visible to Driver (Google Glass)".

Cecilia used her Google+ page to ask if there are any other Google Glass wearers who have been ticketed for having them on while driving.

Commenting on her page, some users pointed out that Google Glass might be covered by exceptions in the state vehicle code 27602 that permits drivers to view displays that show maps, GPS and similar information.

Hopefully this goes to court. The outcome will be very interesting!

Honestly, I don't care. I'll never drive wearing such thing, switched on or not. Besides, Law is always subject to interpretation. That's why courts exist.

A drivers License is a PRIVILEGE, not a "right".
There is nothing in the state department of motor-vehicle exam that allows nor certifies you to fk with your gadgets while driving. Therefore, this shouldn't Even be an argument in court!

Using gadgets while driving is distracting, and will cause accidents on the road. If you're one of those shitheads who is using gadgets while driving you're a Threat to pedestrians, commuters, and to other motorists on the road.
You're issued a license to DRIVE, Not play around with gadgets while driving!

its a weird issue.I think taxi drivers that are frequently touching gps systems are dangerous,(they have the all in 1 touch screens that can be used for voice chat, map, texts, jobs) but they are completely legal which is grounds to argue that using google glass is legal.

i have the big screen tv,a ps3 and 5.1 channel surround sound.car still runs smooth and computer still works but its a bit outdated.

I dunno, gps is one thing if a driver needs to find directions how to get somewhere. But wearing the Google Glass, WHILE DRIVING, is a distraction: because in addition to keeping your eyes on the road, watching your mirrors (all three of them), looking out for sudden jaywalkers and erratic driving behavior by other motorists, sudden appearances of objects on the road (animals, thrown objects, and objects tossed by severe windy weather), under any and all weather conditions, now folks wanna wear Google Glass while driving... and for What! It doesn't make sense at all. Gone are the days when the focus was on Driving, Gone are the days of Driver Safety... now everyone wants to play with their gadgets while driving! We've become such a fked up society lacking common sense and growing more vane than ever.

Wrong. You're probably some college kid who thinks he's entitled to everything and assumes to tell this old man the definition of Right, and Privilege.
So, I will explain it to you the Definition of
"Right = Privilege", briefly, in plain simple English:
YOU do NOT have the Right NOR the Privilege to endanger people's lives on the road as a result of edited by ddp with that gadget up your edited by ddp while driving.

you have the right to drive just like the cops have the right to pull you over and fine you if you're driving on public property without a licence.
having a drivers licence is a privilege that says legally you can drive on public roads.

You're missing my point. The drivers license is a privilege to drive. It is issued to you by the State in which you reside, because you have demonstrated to them (via written and road tests) that you are capable of DRIVING a motor vehicle.
Using a cell phone, GPS, or whatever fkn gadget is NOT driving.
There is NOTHING on your drivers' license that gives you the privilege or the right to mess with gadgets while driving!

If you happen to be in a life-threatening emergency in which your vehicle cannot stop, you are allowed to make an emergency 911 call until help arrives. And ONLY during an emergency.
Before you go there, using your GPS is NOT an emergency.
Wearing a Google Glass while driving is NOT gonna help you become a "better driver".

On the contrary, we need stricter laws and penalties for people who are using gadgets while driving.
If you can't pull over and stop the car to check your edited by ddp iphone or GPS for just ten edited by ddp seconds then you shouldn't be edited by ddp driving because then you'll be a threat to other motorists on the road.
The issue here is NOT about the "Privilege" to use your edited by ddp gadgets while driving.
The issue in the article is about DRIVER SAFETY.

The edited by ddp got ticketed for wearing Google-edited by ddp-Glass while driving, that means she violated whatever no-gadget-use-while-driving law in her State and as such she posed a threat to other motorists on the road!

If I were the edited by ddp judge in that court, I'd revoke her drivers license Indefinitely AND have her car repo'ed AND slap her ass with jail time AND make her do community service, and if she had caused an accident I WOULD MAKE HER PAY THE VICTIMS DAMAGES AND MEDICAL BILLS FOR LIFE!

    This argument is like:
Why only some people wash their hand after using a restroom.

    The way I see it:
I wash my hands 'cos I care about myself.
I drive without using gadgets 'cos I care about myself.
I drive defensibly 'cos I care about myself.

    In another words:
We live in a world surrounded by idiots.
    Just saying.

You've picked up your child from school, and driving home
    on a two-way street...
A motorist from the opposite direction collides head-on into your car... you and your child end up in the hospital with severe injuries... your child's in a coma, then dies a few days later...
...you then find out the cause of the accident was because the other motorist was distracted fussing with Google Glass or some other gadget while driving.
    How do you feel now!

i was working to school from a bus stop at 12years old and did get hit by a car.skid marks all over the road and i woke up 50 metres behind the car on the road, thinking about the car probably was speeding i dont know they blamed me, i blamed them but no legal action taken apart from there insurance company wanting to sue me.i had a couple of very serious bruises.

the point i was making about the licence is that it doesnt make someone a better driver by having a drivers licence,i know a russian that had a chat with his russian driving instructor (who happened to be a family friend) and got his licence and didnt take the test, also know about a dozen asians that had asian driving instructor and got there licence no test.

but i agree that using too heaps of gadgets is dangerous.

Now THAT is a very good point you made, about drivers who were issued licenses without being qualified to drive. So many drivers out there who Shouldn't be driving, because they didn't take the test and never learned the rules of the road. Some of those drivers can't even Drive at all! They got their license through patronage (friends in the Department of Motor Vehicles, or someone they know) or a buddy who cut them some slack. So, yeah, those folks are also dangerous on the road as well.
It doesn't matter what the driver's nationality is, it's more about Who you know in the Department. But, yes, it's obvious that many unqualified licensed drivers come from ethnic backgrounds.

I've seen videos at YouTube showing car accidents and Hit-n-Runs in other countries.
Russia seems to have a very high rate of car/train accidents and Hit-n-Runs, folks driving too fast over there. Pedestrians share the blame as well, they just walk right out into the street without paying attention to traffic because they're wearing headphones or are fking with some other gadget while crossing the street.
Those things happen so often here in the U.S. and in other countries as well.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I find it really disturbing that the driver's insurance company even tried to Sue you for it, when YOU were the Victim.
Obviously the driver and his insurance company were trying to extort money from you,
as part of a scam tactic.
If you'd had an attorney representing your case you would have been able to sue the driver and his insurance company.

As a "civilized society" we humans have lost our natural sense of awareness, because we've grown too dependent on our gadgets.
Take the milk bottles away from all us big babies and we'll start crying hissy fits like big babies. lol

Like I say before: Defensive driving goes a long way.
You never know who or how (in what conditions) other people are driving their cars, trucks, etc.
    Also:
Even an "expert driver" can't drive other vehicles well for the first time or days; 'till they get used to it.
...as a CDL driver, just stay away and no to close behind from U-Hauls Trucks.

Driving is one of the most unpredictable activities ever.
Accidents are not limited to the problem of gadgeting while driving ("Driving While Distracted").
That's just one problem area; but it needs to be nipped
in the bud NOW before it gets out of hand.

Defensive Driving does go a long way, but it can only help so much... with the foot on the pedal, you're still propelling
a quarter-ton vehicle at 30-50 miles per hour with no
margin for safety when you're surrounded by other vehicles
    of various weights and sizes, in all sorts of weather conditions;
and you can't stop the vehicle on a dime once you hit the brakes.
    That's whether you're driving behind a U-Haul truck, or a Mini,
or even a Dumptruck filled with boiling hot asphalt.

That lady should be grateful she got a ticket for wearing her
Google Glass while driving. It could have been a much worse or an even deadly consequence for her and other motorists on the road around her.
At the end of the day, we all wanna drive home safe and sound.
    No one should be subjected to driving hazards of any kind;
let alone the hazards of driving while distracted by gadgets.
