T-Mobile USA adds 1 million customers as new plans and prices pay off

T-Mobile, which recently moved away from contracts and began innovating in the industry that has been stagnant for years, has added over 1 million new customers in the last quarter, beating out larger rivals Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.

The carrier ended the period with 45 million customers, as growth has been accelerating. "Our momentum is great and we have confidence that we can continue to deliver sustainable and profitable growth," CEO John Legere said in a statement.

Revenue jumped 37 percent to $6.69 billion, above estimates. The turnaround is thanks to T-Mobile's "Uncarrier" initiative, which included a move to no contracts, free international roaming, unlimited data (with some throttling after certain points), cheaper service and an industry-first early upgrade program for new devices.

In the same quarter, Sprint lost 313,000 customers, AT&T admitted all of its feature phone customers were jumping ship and Verizon's growth slowed.

T-Mobile says now it expects to see 1.8 million new customers for the year, up from their original projection of 1.2 million.

I just switched to T-Mobile from Verizon. My wife and I had a family plan and was paying $80 per month with limited talk and text. Right now I am paying $85 per month for my plan plus phone with unlimited everything. With the recent addition of free international data is icing for me.

I did have one problem with my S4, wasn't connecting to the 4G network, and brought it to the T-Mobile store to complain. For some odd reason my OS became corrupted and they fixed it right away. I never got that sort of service from Verizon. I know that people complain about their coverage area, but thankfully I've yet to have that problem.

I have a family plan with 4 lines at $138 a month with taxes, I live in oregon (cheapest post paid cell phone tax in the country). I get lte data on all my lines. My plan breakdowns like this 1 line unlimited lte data, 1 line 2.5 gb lte data and the other lines 500 mg lte data, then slows down to 4g...Its all good
