Rumor: 12.9-inch iPads with 4K resolution coming next year

Once again, rumors have emerged that Apple is looking into building a larger iPad.

The sources claim Foxconn has already built five prototypes of a 12.9-inch iPad with 4K resolution and some with 2K resolution.



2K resolution models will debut in the first half of 2014, followed by the 4K models later in the year. The 4K model would be released during the normal product cycle in October.

Somewhat misleadingly, the report does not specify any specific resolutions. The current iPad Air with its 2,048 x 1,536 pixel resolution, is already a '2K' display.

WSJ and other Asian publications have previously reported on the purported large iPads.

  The Apple iPad trying to be more like a laptop except more expensive and less functional.
  
  If these come out I cannot wait to see people walking around taking pictures with their 13" tablet and then buying expensive accessories like keyboards so they can set them up like a laptop when they could have had a nice laptop and a modest 6-8" tablet to compliment that laptop for the same price as that large iPad.

  nope... Not unless you put your eyeball on the screen or use some sort of magnification. Ever see a salesman sell a 4K TV. The ones I have seen make the customer stand less than a foot from the screen on a 1080P TV and also on a 4K TV to show them the difference. Sad part is when you go back 8-10 feet you can barely tell or not tell at all.

  On a TV even at 10 feet away I can tell the difference but 2k to 4k on a 10 to 13 inch tab it wouldn't be worth the extra money it will cost. However it is still good from the stance that density has increased and will provide much higher resolutions for large screens. But in this case if the price was only a slight increase I'd go with the 4k every day, that won't be the case here and is why I typically steer clear of iStuff in the first place. I certainly don't like Apple as a whole, but I wouldn't say they are crappy, I would say they are way over priced.

  My sentiments exactly MM. Not crappy, just overpriced.
  
  On a 13" tab like that 4K is possibly not just a waste of money but processing power too.
  
  I like the idea of 4K for large screens and projectors when gaming Bobiroc. I've been gaming on a dual GTX 780 setup with the AA turned up to max x16 SLI override on a 50" 1080p screen... and bugger me if I still don't see %&#*ing jaggies! OK it's not bad but still...
