Microsoft Kinect for Windows v2 goes up for pre-order at $199, ships 7/15

Microsoft has confirmed that the Kinect v2 for Windows will begin shipping on July 15th, with the motion control system now available for pre-order.

The device is available in Microsoft's UK and U.S. online stores with a price of $199/�159.

Microsoft had originally offered the Kinect only as part of their Xbox gaming consoles, and the Xbox One launched with it as a mandatory bundle. Only recently did the company move away from that policy, selling the console with Kinect for $100 less.

With a launch for Windows, the system's uses are multiplied although Microsoft says the unit does not have any software included and should be used with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0. There are only a few notable apps so far that have been designed for the system on Windows, but there are surely plenty more to come with the updated v2 model.

Lets take our $40 device (I'm being really generous) which we marked up to $100 but was a flop and sell it on a different platform and mark it up to $200.

Question is.......what practical use will this have on a computer? What games will be avail.?

Cameras for video game systems are a fad that will soon die out when MS doesn't sell many of these.

Cameras for video game systems are a fad that will soon die out when MS doesn't sell many of these. I can't imagine too many games using this for pc. I think it will be mostly used for controlling your computer. Just think of the movie Minority Report.

there have been some other real "you beaut" sensors out there but I don't know what happened to them.

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Why is it Microsoft can hound you to buy a piece of crap for the rest of years but when they have a solid product on there hands they pull support for it.
