Lionsgate wins restraining order against six warez sites sharing 'Expendables 3'

Lionsgate wins restraining order against six warez sites sharing 'Expendables 3'
After asking for a restraining order against sites that were sharing the leaked DVD quality copy of 'Expendables 3' last week, Lionsgate has won temporary injunctions against the anonymous operators of the torrent and cyberlockers including popular Billionuploads.

Lionsgate had claimed that a high-quality copy of the film had been stolen and uploaded to the Internet on July 24th, and that it had been downloaded over 2.1 million times.

In her ruling, U.S. District Judge Margaret Morrow says that "Lions Gate has established that it will suffer irreparable harm in the absence of immediate relief. Among other things, Defendants' likely infringement has stripped Lions Gate of the critical right of first publication, is interfering with Lions Gate's contractual relationships with third parties, is damaging Lions Gate's goodwill among consumers, and is depriving Lions Gate of revenue that will be difficult or impossible to calculate, but is likely far in excess of any amount that Defendants could repay to Lions Gate in damages even if the amount could be calculated."

The sites, limetorrents.com, billionuploads.com, hulfile.eu, played.to, swankshare.com and dotsemper.com all refused to respond to take down notices (or were slow to do so) and are now banned from "hosting or linking to the film, taking any action that contributes to the infringement of the film, and transferring the registration of their sites."

For the time being, the temporary restraining order is good until August 8th. In addition, Lionsgate now has the right to contact the banks, payment processors and advertising service providers that back the sites and ask for freezes on their accounts.

Does anyone really pay to actually see these in the theaters? Last 2 my wife rented from red box, I found them to be really cheesy comedy's that had their funny moments but certainly not worth a $9 movie ticket

How many times it's downloaded is irrelevant it doesn't list a graph to show:,fakes, poor quality or even those that intend to go see it at a theater, that's the thing about stats you can make em up & skew them anyway you want to suit your agenda, just like politicians,i look forward to seeing how well it does at the box office it wasn't a bad movie it could've been better or a little less predictable 3 out of 5 stars from me

The IMDB rating for this movie s***ks big time. With a rare exception of Godfather, I have yet to come across any good sequels.

Quote: ...depriving Lions Gate of revenue that will be difficult or impossible to calculate, but is likely far in excess of any amount that Defendants could repay to Lions Gate in damages even if the amount could be calculated. What vague self-serving BS. Many of those that casually watched this D/L would NOT have bought a ticket or rented it.

Regardless, if they can tell you shared it, then they could calculate virtually exactly how much any individual shared by checking their U/D ratio... effectively what was the equivalent number of times they shared the picture.

But they do NOT want to do this as it could put a real figure on it. They don't really want that do they? That would cut into these punitive precedents by the civil courts.

It's my opinion that they stand to make more money by keeping it vague.

PS: NO, I have not DLed or watched this dreck.
