Windows 10 upgrade woes sends woman to Microsoft offices for help
A Finnish woman turned up at Microsoft offices demanding help after a Windows 10 update rendered her computer useless.

Microsoft has come under fire for how aggressively it pushes users of older versions of Windows to upgrade to its shiny new Windows 10 consumer operating system. Some even go as far as to accuse the Redmond-based giant of deception. When users do decide to give in to the constant nagging and upgrade, they would hope for a painless transition but that hasn't always been the case.

In Finland, one lady turned up at Microsoft offices demanding to be helped after a botched attempted update from Windows 7 to Windows 10. According to reports out of Finland, she even threatened to sue the company if she wasn't helped.

Leena Aro's attempted upgrade to Windows 10 resulted in nothing more than a black screen with a spinning circle that never moved on to anything else. After failing to restore her PC to Windows 7, Aro had enough and decided to confront someone at Microsoft. Aro is a photographer and had thousands of images stored on her PC that she was naturally concerned about.

"On Monday, I went to their offices. Surprisingly, they allowed me in, when I threatened to sue them," she said, according to digitoday.fi.

The good news is that she got what she wanted, as her PC was returned to her the next day in working order, running Microsoft's Windows 7. She doesn't plan to move to Windows 10 in the near future, saying that Windows 7 is the best OS, and better than Windows 8 at least.

Microsoft's Windows boss in Finland, Tom Toivonen, has advised others in the country not to show up at Microsoft offices with their PCs and instead use the company's free helplines if they are experiencing upgrade problems.

Right because their "free" helpline really helps consumers when their upgrade or rollback failed. Sadly laws don't make software companies accountable for anything if something goes wrong, so MS will continue to get away with it unless people scream outrage - which they won't because most people are lazy.

Those of us in IT know just how bad this fiasco really is, the way MS forces and tricks users into upgrading to win10. I personally have witnessed a user being prompted to upgrade, they decline, and then windows says "Okay, upgrading". MS is a piece of crap, infiltrating our property and making unwanted changes to our property and turning it in to a spying machine gathering everything we type and every word we say that the microphone can pick up so that they can sell this information to 3rd parties. edited by ddp Microsoft for being a bunch of edited by ddp thieves. They accuse Google of scroogling us (which is true, the edited by ddp) while they just blatantly sodomize us as we are screaming "NO". And as we are sitting there in pain trying to recover from said sodomy, they add insult to injury by forcing us to relive the event every time we turn our computers on, with a little reminder of their crime, a notification to "Get Raped" even though they have already raped us over and over, possibly giving us tetanus with their rusty trombone trick, and then leaving us to wake up the next day with a bad taste in our mouth as they finished with a dirty sanchez just to make sure we remember the event. And now, I visit one porn site and I get an email for Viagra (how'd they know) and another for some "lonely girl" that wants to date. Well, imagine how many emails one would get from my type of curious browsing, yeah, maxed out my email server in 3 days (not to brag).

And people wonder why some of us switch to Apple. We've had Macs for 8 years now. 7 OS's later and at least 90% of it is exactly the same for what we use it for. It's too bad that gamers have to use Windows. And for those who say it's too expensive, you don't need to buy a brand new computer. There are some really great prices on Ebay and such.

You guys are crying over what Microsoft is doing and in the same breathe praising Apple. You must work for Apply or something. When is the last time Microsoft deleted applications or songs off your computer? When is the last time you tried to install something but couldn't because it wasn't approved by Apple. Get me a break. The update works more times than not and they fixed the issue that was forcing updates. Keep reaching though!

I'm happy with 7 and have no intention of "upgrading" but a friend was having probs with 10 on his laptop and wanted to try using the 10 boot file and asked me to dl it for him. So I go to the site and immediately it asks if its for this machine and I say NO, then it asks where I want to save the file and I tell it to E (a 4 gb flash drive) and off we go. At end of day I remove the flash drive and close down my machine - everything normal!

Next day I boot up and immediately see something is different - long boot time and different screen - my machine is booting into f*****g 10!

Turns out Microswrewitup has created a new partition on my hd which is an exact copy of the flash drive. It has also changed the boot order in my bios so it loads from the new E drive first.

After loads of head scratching I finally connect the hd to my laptop and convert the new partition to fat 16 so 10 and 7 can't see it. I still can't change the boot order in the bios but at least 7 is loading again.

What kind of a dishonest company would engage in dishonest trickery like that? Only Microscrewitup!

I turn off all of the updating and other intrusive features and have never had a problem with the nags or forcing to upgrade nonsense. The only time I run into this lately is when I'm installing a new system with win 7.

How about our new dumb phones? They are far more intrusive, limiting, and poorly designed, than Windows issues are, they force updates and nags and unless you root your phone you can't stop them.
