Is Xbox One getting VR games next year?
Sony has a huge lead in this generation's console wars but it's far from over yet. There might be another hurdle that could change things up – virtual reality. However, looking at the current situation it seems like Microsoft is behind the curve on this too. Or is it?

Even though PlayStation intends to bring the VR experience to PlayStation as early as this year, Microsoft might not be out of the race as we've thought. According to Ars Technica's source a large European game studio is developing a VR game for both Windows and Xbox.



According to the leaked information this game will, however, not be available before 2017. This reaffirms that Microsoft is, like Sony, developing an improved console, mostly VR experience in mind.

It could be that Microsoft will rival the first official introduction of VR experience to their console at the E3 this year but would have to wait until 2017 to release it to the public. It also remains to be seen if the new Xbox is compatible with Oculus and/or Microsoft's own glasses. However, it does seem that Sony doesn't have this aspect totally in the bag yet.

    I thought DirectX 12 alone was supposed to increase Xbox One graphics capabilities up to 10x??? ;-)

    DirextX is just a graphics API. It doesn't actually increase the base capabilities of the hardware; rather it simply lets you use those capabilities.

    To be fair, a new version of DirectX will allow programmers to do some things (tesselation, say) that would otherwise be very difficult to code, so yes, in a way at least, the new API can be considered to be adding capability. But the hardware is what it is and only can do so much, no matter how novel your interface is ^^' .

    Unless someone finds a way to cure sim sickness, however, this won't really matter all that much. Bleah.

    If only more butthurt Xbox One fans knew that instead of talking out of their aching asses!

    VR is still gimmicky like 3DTV and it will probably die off until someone revives it again next decade.

It is just a matter of repetition, usually 3-5 sessions are enough if they are not spaced too far apart. About 5% have incurable sim sickness, but that's less than the percentage of people who can't use the system because of eye glasses.

    That said, I don't really think VR is going to take off, at least not how the devs think it will. I can see plenty of uses for head mounted displays and even for head and eye movement tracking, but the next step is a huge leap. Devs seem to think that next step is something like Kinect or Move...that is part of it, but it is also a 2D treadmill for walking, pneumatic gun simulators for shooting, electrical stimulation suits for feeling sensations, scent generators, etc, etc, etc...or maybe something like in Lawnmowerman where it just interfaces with the brain directly, in that case you don't even need displays or headphones.

    That said, a good driving simulator with an oculus, a racing seat, and a good wheel/pedal setup would be f**king great, especially if the whole rig was hooked up to some kind of motion system...
