DAO stands for Disc At Once. It applies when recording an audio CD. Basically it determines whether a laser is turned off between each pair of tracks for synchronization. For the DAO recording mode, no gap is required, just continuous recording compared to TAO (track at once), which produces a gap of 2 seconds.
