DVD Forum

The DVD Forum, originally DVD Consortium, is a large collection of technology companies including hardware manufacturers, software firms and content providers who view the Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) as part of their business. As part of the DVD Forum, members exchange and disseminate ideas and information about the DVD Format and its technical capabilities, improvements and innovations. The group works to promote acceptance of the DVD format across the world and in all related industries.

Any company that engaged in activities related to DVD research, development and/or manufacturing can join the DVD Forum but members are not required to support the DVD format to the exclusion of others. As for the current format war that is being waged between HD DVD and Blu-ray, the DVD Forum supports the DVD-like HD DVD format. The group was originally founded (as the DVD Consortium) in 1995 by ten companies...
  • Hitachi, Ltd.
  • Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd.
  • Mitsubishi Electric Corporation
  • Pioneer Electronic Corporation
  • Royal Philips Electronics N.V.
  • Sony Corporation
  • Thomson
  • Time Warner Inc.
  • Toshiba Corporation
  • Victor Company of Japan, Ltd.
The DVD Format specifications are defined by the DVD Forum. The group also creates DVD Format books and licenses the DVD Format and logo. DVD Verification laboratories are administered by the DVD Forum also. DVD conferences are also held worldwide by the DVD Forum, where information on the DVD format is promoted.
