EV-DO is a 3G mobile broadband technology.
In the U.S., the technology is used by CDMA carriers Verizon and Sprint and offers download speeds on average of 1000kpbs.
Originally released as EV-DO Rev-0, the latest version of the technology is EV-DO Rev-A. Rev-A is significantly faster than its predecessor.
Just like other 3G and 4G networks, EV-DO is always connected on your smartphone or mobile broadband device (unless specifically turned off) allowing for Internet access almost everywhere.
Outside of smartphones, EV-DO 3G modems are available as USB dongles, ExpressCards or "MiFi" hotspot devices.
Depending on your residence and your carrier, speeds vary and could reach speeds as high as 3000kbps.
