A unit of data storage.
Because gigabytes are ambiguous and misuse the prefix "giga" as defined by the International System of Units, the International Electrotechnical Commission established Gibibytes in 2000.
A gibibyte is always 2^30, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Gibibytes are 1,024 mebibytes and precede tebi, pebi, exbi, zebi and yobi in byte measurement.
