JEDEC refered to the Jedec Solid-State Technology Association. It got the name JEDEC from what it was originally known as: Joint Electron Device Engineering Council. It is the leading developer of standards for the solid-state industry, comprising of 50 committees containing a total of 3,300 participants appointed by 295 companies. The publications and standards that they generate are accepted throughout the world. All JEDEC standards are available online, at no charge.
The Joint Electron Devices Engineering Council (JEDEC) was formed in 1958 as a part of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA). In 1999, JEDEC was incorporated as an independent association under the name, The JEDEC Solid State Technology Association (thereby abandonning any reference to the original acronym). This new organization then became a recognized sector of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), and maintains that relationship today.
JEDEC committees hold frequent meetings throughout the year in domestic and international venues. All standardization work takes place at these meetings, and companies must be members to participate.
