Masterbox is an illegitimate music product that went into relatively widespread circulation in Europe in recent years.
The product was a box set featuring music CDs and DVDs from artists such as Black Eyed Peas, Michael Jackson, Green Day and Robbie Williams. In total, there were over 50 editions of the Masterbox series produced and released.
The makers of the products never acquired any license for the use of the music, and didn't pay any royalties for sales. They were sold for about €40 each, and were sold primarily in the Netherlands.
Estimates put the total number of sales at about 400,000 editions, which would be worth millions of euros to the people behind its production. The Masterbox case has witnessed considerable legal action.
In October, 2010, more than 100 police officers in four countries were involved in operations against the manufacturing of the Masterbox products. Legal actions in the case date back to 2006.
