Phantom DSL

Phantom DSL is a relatively new approach to data transmission over copper wires. In October, 2010, Nokia Siemens Networks announced it has achieved 825 megabits per second over 400 meters of bonded copper lines and 750 megabits per second over a distance of 500 meters.

It promises a bandwidth increase of 50-75 percent over existing bonded copper wires. It is being pushed as a solution to the demand for higher bandwidth, and would be more cost effective than moving to fiber to make up demands.

It gets its name from a virtual (phantom) channel used in the solution.
